Lutron Motorized Drapery Tracks: The Main Features, and What It Takes to Install Them in Your Home
Lutron's Sivoia QS drapery tracks, feature by feature from Lutron's own specifications, and what your home needs before one goes up. From a Lutron Certified Dealer that sews the drapery in its own Fort Lauderdale workroom.
The main features of Lutron motorized drapery tracks
In one list. Lutron's motorized drapery system is Sivoia QS: a track built to order around one of three drives.
- Three drives named for the weight they pull: D105, D145 and D175, to 175 lb of drapery.
- 35 V low voltage, wired or wireless, from a plug-in supply, a junction box or a power panel.
- Up to 18 ft without a splice, longer with up to two splices.
- Quiet and synchronised: no more than 50 dB at 3 ft, 6 in per second.
- Straight or curved to a 20 in radius, corners to 90 degrees (curves in pinch pleat).
- Pinch pleat or ripplefold, one-way or center draw, butt or overlap closure.
- Ceiling, wall or a recessed ceiling pocket, in white, silver, bronze or black.
- Pull-to-start on the D105-P, and it still opens by hand in a power cut.
- Native control: Pico remotes, keypads, Caséta, RA2 Select, RadioRA 3, HomeWorks and myRoom Plus.
Can you install them in your home? Yes, with power at the drive end, a solid ceiling or wall, a track shape Lutron builds and a drapery within the drive's rating. The checklist is below.
Every figure on this page comes from a Lutron document, linked under each feature and in the Sources: the chassis specification, the three capacity specifications, the power supply sheet and Lutron's product page, all checked October 10, 2026. Where two Lutron documents disagree, we give the lower number and say so.
Lutron motorized drapery tracks, feature by feature #
Ten features, each from the Lutron document named under it.
Feature 1
Three drives, named for the weight they pull #
The D105, D145 and D175 are rated for draperies up to 105, 145 and 175 lb (48, 66 and 79 kg). The rating is the top of a table, not a promise at every width: capacity rises with the system width to a peak and falls again on very long tracks, and it drops on every bend. The D175 is the strongest low-voltage drapery drive we install; Somfy's low-voltage drapery motors are rated 99 and 110 lb and Crestron's 24 V motor 145 lb.

Feature 2
35 V low voltage, wired or wireless #
Every drive runs on Class 2, 35 V power, from a plug-in supply in a standard receptacle (one drive per supply), a junction-box supply, or a 10- or 30-output power panel for a whole house. Control is wired QS or wireless. Low voltage is what lets a heavy drapery move on thin wire: 250 ft of 12 AWG, 100 ft of 16 AWG or 50 ft of 18 AWG from supply to drive.

Feature 3
Up to 18 ft without a splice #
A single track runs up to 18 ft (5.5 m) in one piece. Longer tracks are spliced, two splices at most; Lutron's dimensions page gives up to 30 ft with splices, and the D175 table runs to 500 in of system width in pinch pleat. Spliced tracks ship in two or three sections, and pull-to-start draperies take one splice at most.

Feature 4
Quiet, synchronised, 6 in per second #
Lutron's chassis specification caps the drive at 50 dB measured 3 ft away, and its product page gives a master carrier speed of 6 in per second (152 mm). Several drives across one wall start, travel and stop together, so four panels read as one movement instead of four motors arriving at slightly different times.

Feature 5
Curves and corners, in pinch pleat #
Curved track is built to a radius of 20 in or more, and 90 degrees is the tightest inside angle Lutron allows; smaller angles are not. Curved tracks are pinch pleat only: all three capacity specifications state that ripplefold is not available with curved track, and the D105-P is not offered on curves. Each bend costs capacity: on the D145, 145 lb straight becomes 90 lb with one bend and 55 lb with two.

Feature 6
Pinch pleat or ripplefold #
Pinch pleat at 2, 2.5 or 3 times fullness (3 times for sheers only), or ripplefold at 80, 100 or 120%. Ripplefold gives the even wave and the narrow stack that keeps an open drapery off the glass; pinch pleat is the traditional heading and the one that curves. The drapery itself can be nearly any custom-fabricated fabric, sewn to the carrier spacing.

Feature 7
One-way or center draw, and how the panels meet #
Side draw left or right, center draw, and tandem draw. On a center draw the two leading edges can butt (the default for ripplefold, not offered for pinch pleat), overlap (about 3.9 in for pinch pleat, 4.6 in for ripplefold with pull-to-start) or extend the overlap (6 in pinch pleat, 7 in ripplefold without pull-to-start). Lutron builds single, dual, tandem and dual-tandem track configurations.

Feature 8
Ceiling, wall or a recessed pocket #
Ceiling cam locks sit 4 to 8 in from each end, then 16 in in, then every 16 to 24 in; wall brackets go within 8 in of each end and 16 to 24 in apart, matched to the track colour. Lutron's drawings show a pocket-mount application with a 6.0 in minimum, and its recessed pocket system comes in 8 ft sections for 5/8 in double-layer drywall, with a 2.88 in minimum recess, fastened to framing no more than 16 in apart.
Source Chassis spec 086123k
Feature 9
Pull-to-start on the D105-P #
A patented spring release in the manual-open carrier: tug the drapery and the drive takes over, open it by hand when the power is out, and pulling a motorized drapery open does not damage it. The release force is adjustable in the field. Lutron gives the pull-to-start drive up to 70 lb of fabric, on straight track, with one splice at most and center draw only.

Feature 10
Native to Lutron systems #
Lutron lists the drapery as compatible with Caséta, Caséta PRO, RA2 Select, RadioRA 3, HomeWorks QS, HomeWorks QSX and myRoom Plus, on Pico wireless remotes or keypads. In a Lutron home that means one system: the drapery joins the lighting and shade scenes, with no second app or hub. Track finishes are white, silver, bronze or black, and the system is rated for indoor use, 32 to 104 F, up to 90% relative humidity, non-condensing.

How much drapery each Lutron drive pulls #
From Lutron's three capacity specifications. Capacity depends on the system width, so each figure is given with the width where Lutron's table reaches it. The D175 table prints 180 lb on its peak row against a 175 lb rating; we use 175.
| Drive | Rated | Straight pinch pleat, peak | Straight ripplefold, peak | Curved, one bend | Widest system in the table | What we put on it |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| D105 | 105 lb (48 kg) | 105 lb at 108 to 132 in | 85 lb at 68 to 108 in | 55 lb at 108 to 132 in | 360 in pinch pleat; 216 in ripplefold | Sheers and lighter lined drapery; the pull-to-start option (D105-P) |
| D145 | 145 lb (66 kg) | 145 lb at 144 to 180 in | 140 lb at 108 to 132 in | 90 lb (55 lb with two bends) at 144 to 180 in | 360 in pinch pleat; 216 in ripplefold | Lined and blackout drapery on most openings |
| D175 | 175 lb (79 kg) | Rating reached at 216 to 252 in | 165 lb at 132 to 168 in | 130 lb (95 lb with two bends) at 216 to 252 in | 500 in pinch pleat; 360 in ripplefold | Interlined blackout, velvet, long walls of glass |
Can you install Lutron motorized drapes in your home? #
Yes, in almost any house or condo. Before we quote one, we check these seven things.
- Power at the drive end. Every Lutron drapery drive runs on 35 V. In a finished home the simplest source is Lutron's plug-in supply: it plugs into a standard receptacle on a 6 ft cord and powers one drive. In new construction or a remodel, a junction-box supply or a power panel feeds the drives by low-voltage wire: 250 ft of 12 AWG, 100 ft of 16 AWG, 50 ft of 18 AWG. Lutron's drapery page lists no battery drive, so the outlet or the wire comes first.
- Something solid to fasten to. Ceiling cam locks every 16 to 24 in, or wall brackets within 8 in of each end and 16 to 24 in apart. We fasten into concrete condo slabs, wood framing or blocking behind drywall; the bracket spacing is Lutron's.
- A pocket, if you want the track hidden. Lutron's recessed pocket needs a 2.88 in minimum recess, in 8 ft sections for 5/8 in double-layer drywall, fastened to framing no more than 16 in apart. It is built into the ceiling, so it is a new-construction or remodel decision, with the dimensions confirmed on site before the drywall closes. See recessed window treatments.
- A track shape Lutron builds. Straight to 18 ft in one piece, longer with splices. Bays and corners curve to a 20 in radius or turn to 90 degrees, in pinch pleat; ripplefold and pull-to-start stay on straight track.
- A drapery within the drive's rating. Sheers and lined panels sit well within the D105 or D145; interlined blackout, velvet and long walls of glass go to the D175, and every bend lowers the figure.
- A way to control it. A Pico remote on its own, or the house system: Caséta, RA2 Select, RadioRA 3, HomeWorks or myRoom Plus.
- Indoors. Lutron rates the system 32 to 104 F, up to 90% relative humidity, non-condensing: inside the glass, not on an open lanai.
Is it a do-it-yourself job? The track is cut to the opening, the drapery is sewn to its carrier spacing, the brackets go at Lutron's centres and the drive is addressed and programmed into the house system, so it is professional work. We do all of it, measure to programming, as a Lutron Certified Dealer.
Lutron or another motorized track? #
When Lutron is the right track
When the house already runs on Lutron (Caséta, RadioRA 3 or HomeWorks), the drapery joins the same Pico remotes, keypads and scenes as the lighting and the shades. And when the drapery is heavy and must stay on low voltage: the D175's 175 lb is well above Somfy's low-voltage drapery motors (99 and 110 lb) and Crestron's 24 V motor (145 lb).
When another track fits better
A Crestron house gets the Crestron track, commissioned with the integrator. A finished condo where no outlet or wire can reach the track end is a case for a battery motor, which Lutron does not list for drapery. And for a tight bay, Somfy bends to an 11.8 in radius against Lutron's 20 in. The full side-by-side is in Somfy vs Lutron vs Crestron motorized drapery tracks; the shades side of Lutron is in Lutron motorized shades.

Frequently asked
What are the main features of Lutron motorized drapery tracks? #
Lutron's Sivoia QS drapery system is a track built to order around one of three drives named for the weight they pull: the D105, D145 and D175, rated 105, 145 and 175 lb. All run on 35 V Class 2 low voltage, wired QS or wireless. A track runs up to 18 ft without a splice, the master carrier travels 6 in per second, and Lutron rates the drive at no more than 50 dB at 3 ft. Tracks can be straight or curved (radius 20 in or more, tightest inside angle 90 degrees), with pinch pleat or ripplefold headings, one-way or center draw, on ceiling or wall brackets or in a recessed ceiling pocket, in white, silver, bronze or black. The D105-P adds pull-to-start, and the drapery works with Pico remotes, Caséta, RA2 Select, RadioRA 3, HomeWorks and myRoom Plus.
Can I install Lutron motorized drapes in my home? #
Yes, in almost any home, if four things line up: power at the drive end (a standard receptacle for Lutron's plug-in 35 V supply, or a low-voltage wire run from a junction-box supply or a power panel), something solid to fasten to (ceiling brackets every 16 to 24 in, or framing behind a recessed pocket), a track shape Lutron builds (straight, or curved to a 20 in radius in pinch pleat), and a drapery within the drive's capacity. They are indoor products, rated 32 to 104 F below 90% relative humidity, non-condensing. Because the track is cut to the opening and the drapery is sewn to it, measuring, installation and programming are professional work.
How much weight can a Lutron drapery track carry? #
The drive's name is its rating: the D105 pulls up to 105 lb, the D145 up to 145 lb and the D175 up to 175 lb. Actual capacity depends on the system width, the heading and any bends. On Lutron's tables the D145 reaches 145 lb of pinch pleat at 144 to 180 in wide, falling to 90 lb with one bend and 55 lb with two; the D175 reaches its rating at 216 to 252 in, with 130 lb on one bend and 95 lb on two; ripplefold peaks at 85, 140 and 165 lb on the three drives.
How long can a Lutron drapery track be? #
Up to 18 ft (5.5 m) without a splice. Longer tracks are spliced, two splices at most, and Lutron's dimensions page gives up to 30 ft with splices; its D175 capacity table runs to 500 in of system width in pinch pleat and 360 in in ripplefold. Pull-to-start draperies are limited to one splice, center draw only. Spliced tracks ship in two or three sections.
Can a Lutron drapery track curve or turn a corner? #
Yes. Lutron builds curved tracks with a radius of 20 in or more, and 90 degrees is the tightest inside angle it allows. Curved tracks are pinch pleat only, because Lutron's capacity specifications state that ripplefold is not available with curved track, and the D105-P pull-to-start drive is not offered on curves. Every bend lowers the weight the drive may pull, so a bay window is sized on the curved column of Lutron's table, not the straight one.
Do Lutron motorized drapes need to be hard-wired? #
They need 35 V low-voltage power at the drive, which can be as simple as a plug-in supply. Lutron's QS Link Plug-In Power Supply plugs into a standard receptacle on a 6 ft cord and powers one drive; a junction-box supply or a power panel serves wired installations. From the supply, the drive wire can run 250 ft in 12 AWG, 100 ft in 16 AWG or 50 ft in 18 AWG. Lutron's drapery page lists the drives on 35 V wiring only, with no battery option, so plan an outlet or a wire run at the drive end of the track.
Do Lutron drapes work with Caséta, RadioRA 3 and HomeWorks? #
Yes. Lutron lists the Sivoia drapery as compatible with Caséta, Caséta PRO, RA2 Select, RadioRA 3, HomeWorks QS, HomeWorks QSX and myRoom Plus, controlled by Pico wireless remotes or keypads, wired QS or wireless. Because the drapery is native Lutron, it joins the same scenes as the lighting and the shades in a Lutron home.
Can I open Lutron motorized drapes by hand? #
On the D105-P, yes. Lutron's pull-to-start uses a patented spring release in the manual-open carrier: a tug starts the drive, the drapery can be opened by hand when the power is out, and pulling a motorized drapery open does not damage it. The release force is adjustable in the field. Lutron gives the pull-to-start drive up to 70 lb of fabric; it is not offered on curved tracks, and pull-to-start draperies take one splice at most, center draw only.
How quiet and how fast is a Lutron drapery track? #
Lutron's chassis specification says the drive does not exceed 50 dB measured 3 ft from it, a ceiling rather than a typical level, and its product page gives a master carrier speed of 6 in per second. On a wall of glass the drives start, travel and stop together, which is what makes several panels read as one movement.
Can a Lutron drapery track be recessed into the ceiling? #
Yes. Lutron's chassis drawings show a pocket-mount application with a 6.0 in minimum, and its own recessed pocket system comes in 8 ft sections for 5/8 in double-layer drywall, with a minimum recess width of 2.88 in, fastened to at least two framing members no more than 16 in apart. A pocket has to be built into the ceiling, so it belongs in new construction or a remodel, with the dimensions confirmed before the drywall closes.
Ripplefold or pinch pleat on a Lutron track? #
Ripplefold, at 80, 100 or 120% fullness, gives the even wave and the compact stack most modern rooms want, on straight track only; a center-draw ripplefold closes with a butt closure by default, the two leading edges meeting. Pinch pleat, at 2, 2.5 or 3 times fullness (3 times for sheers only), is the heading for curved tracks and for traditional rooms, and closes with an overlap of about 3.9 in or an extended overlap of 6 in.
What colours do Lutron drapery tracks come in? #
White, silver, bronze and black, per Lutron's chassis specification, with wall brackets that match the track colour.
Can Lutron drapery tracks go on a lanai or outdoors? #
No. Lutron rates the drapery system for indoor use only, 32 to 104 F, at up to 90% relative humidity, non-condensing. A covered lanai in South Florida takes exterior-rated screens and motors instead.
What do Lutron motorized drapes cost? #
We quote Lutron tracks per opening after a free measure, because the drive, the track length and shape, the power and the drapery all move the number. For scale, our 12 ft motorized track with a rechargeable motor, remote and installation is about $1,452, or about $2,833 with a smart-hub motor, ceiling mount and lined drapery; Lutron tracks are quoted per opening, and the drapery itself is priced on the fabric.
Who installs Lutron motorized drapes in Fort Lauderdale and Miami? #
We do, as a Lutron Certified Dealer: our team measures, specifies the drive and the track, sews the drapery in our Fort Lauderdale workroom at 4539 Powerline Rd, installs the track and programs the drive into the house system, from Miami and Miami Beach to Palm Beach.
Every figure on this page, by Lutron document #
All documents accessed 10 October 2026. Two Lutron documents disagree: the chassis specification's splice table runs to 500 in while its dimensions page and Lutron's product page give up to 30 ft with splices, and the D175 table prints 180 lb on one row against a 175 lb rating. The page uses the lower figure in both cases. Somfy and Crestron figures are from our comparison page, which cites their documents.
