Crete is one of the Alendel sheers we make up here, with 5 colourways on the card, in 50% recycled polyester and 50% polyester, at 125 in wide, railroaded. The colours run Vintage Rose, Swan, Straw, Fountain and Bisque, across the pink, white, beige and grey families. All 5 flagged in stock by Alendel. It sits in Alendel's Olympus Book.
At 125 in the cloth is turned sideways and the width becomes the height, so a window wall up to about 10 ft 5 in tall carries no seam at all; that is the wide-width advantage on floor-to-ceiling glass. Polyester holds its pleat and its size in humid air and after cleaning, and stands up to Florida sun better than cotton or linen does. Alendel lists the weight at 1.50 lb per yard, heavy for a sheer, so the track or rod is sized to carry it. Care is WA-P (washable or dry clean). It passes NFPA 701 and CAN/ULC S109, the drapery flame tests asked for on commercial and condo common-area work in the US and Canada; and FMVSS 302, the automotive interior test. Every colourway is listed as Oeko-Tex. Country of origin, as Alendel lists it: Turkey.
What Crete does at the window, and what it does not
Best use
Sheers are our most requested drapery and Crete is used as one: floor to ceiling on a ceiling-mounted track, ripplefold or pinch pleat, set at 2.5 to 3 times fullness so the wave is even from end to end. The wide width means a whole wall in one piece.
Light and privacy
A sheer filters hard sunlight into an even glow and keeps the view; it takes the glare off a white sofa without hiding the water. It gives no privacy at night with the lights on, so a bedroom takes a lined or blackout panel on a second track behind it, and it is not a blackout.
Cloth and care
50% recycled polyester and 50% polyester; 1.50 lb per yard; care WA-P (washable or dry clean). Polyester keeps its size and its pleat in humid air and after cleaning, and holds its colour in the sun better than a natural fibre. Listed as Oeko-Tex.
Limitations
No privacy at night with the lights on, and no blackout; it is layered where either is needed. Railroaded wide-width goods are not cut into Roman shades; for a matching Roman we pick a 54 inch cloth from the same book. The seamless drop tops out at about 10 ft 5 in; a taller wall is seamed or turned back up the roll.
