Alendel Sheer Fabrics
827 colourways in 164 sheer patterns, most of them wide-width goods railroaded so a wall of glass runs seamless. Every swatch, every Alendel specification, sewn in Fort Lauderdale and hung from Miami to Palm Beach.
Light, made to move, from the Alendel books
Nothing suits a wall of South Florida glass like a sheer, and this page is every cloth Alendel types as one: 827 colourways in 164 patterns, from plain polyester voiles in sixty-odd colours to linen-look sheers, embroidered and printed sheers and the few cotton and silk ones. Most of them are wide-width, 115 to 145 inches, which is the number that matters: railroaded, the width becomes the drop, so a window wall up to about ten feet high runs seamless from end to end. The rest are 54 to 60 inch goods that run up the roll for single windows, doors and bedrooms.
Every pattern opens to its own page with all of its colourways, the swatch, Alendel's width, content, repeat, care code, fire listings and weight per yard, and the stock flag. The filters below sort the page by colour family, width, care, fire listing, Oeko-Tex and Alendel book. What a sheer does is the same for all of them: it filters hard sunlight into an even glow, keeps the view and gives no privacy at night with the lights on, so a bedroom takes a lined or blackout panel on a second track behind it.

How to choose an Alendel sheer
Wide-width for a wall of glass
A 118 inch voile turned sideways covers a nine-foot-ten drop with no seam; a 130 or 145 inch one covers a taller wall. On sliders and a floor-to-ceiling window wall this is the first filter to set. The width column on every pattern page says which goods are railroaded and how high the seamless drop goes.
Up the roll for windows and doors
A 54 to 60 inch sheer runs up the roll like a drapery cloth and is seamed at each width, with the seam inside a ripplefold wave or a pleat. It suits a single window, a pair of French doors and a bedroom with a lined panel behind it, and it is the way to match a sheer to a 54 inch drapery cloth from the same book.
Care code before colour
Sheers are the panels that get washed, so the care code matters more here than anywhere: WA and WA-P are washable, P and S are dry clean, and Alendel's own instruction line is on the pattern page. Polyester keeps its size and its wave through a wash; a linen or cotton sheer is pressed and rehung with more care.
Fullness and the track
We sew sheers at two and a half to three times fullness so the wave is even from end to end, on ripplefold snap tape or a hand-set pinch pleat, hung on a ceiling-mounted hand-drawn or motorized track. Weight per yard decides the track; a wide-width voile at a third of a pound is the lightest thing we hang, and the weighted hem Alendel sews into some of them keeps it plumb.
What a sheer does at the window, and what it does not
By day a sheer takes the glare off a white sofa and the sharp edge off a west wall without hiding the water. It softens the architecture, calms the echo in a glass-and-stone room and frames the view instead of blocking it. That is why living rooms and dining rooms on the Intracoastal and the ocean run sheers alone, floor to ceiling, wall to wall, on a track that glides thirty feet of fabric open in silence.
At night, with the lights on inside, the room is visible from outside, and no sheer changes that. Where privacy after dark matters, a lined or blackout panel rides on a second track behind the sheer, or a solar or blackout roller sits in the window behind it; the sheer stays the layer you see. A sheer is not a blackout and not a UV shade either: it filters a share of the light and the UV, and where the furniture has to be protected a solar screen behind it does that job.
Wide-width sheers are not cut into Roman shades. The weave runs sideways in a railroaded panel, which is right for a drapery and wrong for the folds of a Roman; for a matching Roman we pick a 54 inch cloth from the same Alendel book. The one number to check on any sheer before falling for the colour is the width against the ceiling height: a 118 inch cloth runs seamless to about nine feet ten, and a taller wall is seamed or turned back up the roll.

Where these sheers go on our installations
Sheers are our most requested drapery from Brickell and Miami Beach condos to Fort Lauderdale waterfront homes and Palm Beach island, and an Alendel wide-width sheer is made up the way our published sheer projects were: ripplefold sheers on Lutron Sivoia QS tracks across five rooms at the Ritz-Carlton Residences Miami Beach, to the designer's fabric schedule; wide-width sheers on recessed Somfy tracks across an ocean wall in Boca Raton, with the fullness trimmed so the stack clears the glass; sheers up to sixteen feet high on wired tracks through a new estate in Southwest Ranches, finished flush to the floor. Custom sheers on a manual track are quoted per linear foot of width, and the pricing page has the figures; every panel is cut and sewn by our five in-house seamstresses in Fort Lauderdale.
Sheers: frequently asked
Which Alendel sheer runs seamless across a whole wall?
Any of the wide-width ones, which is most of this page: railroaded, a 118 inch cloth covers a drop of about nine feet ten with no seam, a 130 inch one about ten feet ten and a 145 inch one about twelve feet. The width column on each pattern page and the width filter above sort them; a wall taller than the width is seamed or run up the roll.
Do Alendel sheers pass NFPA 701?
Many do, and the fire listing filter above finds them; the pattern page says exactly which tests each colourway carries by Alendel's listing. NFPA 701 is the flame test a condo association, a hotel or an office asks for on drapery, and where a project needs the certificate we request it from Alendel before the cloth is ordered.
Are Alendel sheers washable?
The care code on each pattern page answers it: WA and WA-P are washable, P and S are dry clean only, and Alendel's own instruction line is printed beside the code. Most of the polyester voiles on this page are washable; the linen, cotton and embroidered sheers mostly are not.
Sheers alone or layered?
Living areas on the water usually run sheers alone, over a solar roller for the glare. Bedrooms layer a lined or blackout panel on a second track behind the sheer, because a sheer gives no privacy at night with the lights on and no darkness for sleep.
Ripplefold or pinch pleat for a sheer?
Ripplefold is the modern standard for sheers: a continuous even wave that stacks tight on a motorized track, with the fullness set by the snap tape at 80, 100 or 120 percent. Pinch pleat reads more traditional and suits a decorative rod. Both are sewn in our own workroom at two and a half to three times fullness.
Can an Alendel sheer be motorized?
Yes, on Lutron or Somfy tracks that open thirty feet of fabric in silence, from a remote, an app or the home's control system. The track is chosen for the weight of the cloth, and a wide-width voile is the lightest drapery we hang. See motorized drapes.
