A sheer at 57 in in 3 colourways

Dutch is a sheer from Alendel, listed in 3 colourways, in 100% polyester, at 57 in wide. The colours run Feather, Gravel and Prairie, across the grey and beige families. All 3 flagged in stock by Alendel. It sits in Alendel's C.I. Silvercloud Book.

The 57 in width runs up the roll, so panels are made of joined widths with the seams hidden in the pleats, and a Roman shade under about 50 inches finished is cut from a single width. The repeat is horizontal 0.25 in, matched across seams and from window to window, so the yardage is figured on the repeat rather than the finished size. Being polyester it holds a pleat, keeps its size through humidity and a wash or a dry clean, and takes the sun better than a natural fibre, which matters on unshaded glass here. It weighs 1.00 lb per yard by Alendel's listing, and a cloth of that weight is hung on a track or rod sized for it. Care is WA-P (washable or dry clean); Alendel's own line reads: washable + dryclean - iron on reverse side. It passes NFPA 701, the flame test a condo association, hotel or office asks for on drapery; and FMVSS 302, the automotive interior test. Every colourway is listed as Oeko-Tex. Country of origin, as Alendel lists it: Turkey.

Best Use & Limits

What Dutch does at the window, and what it does not

Best use

Sheers are our most requested drapery and Dutch is used as one: floor to ceiling on a ceiling-mounted track, ripplefold or pinch pleat, set at 2.5 to 3 times fullness so the wave is even from end to end. The width runs up the roll, so it is seamed at each width.

Light and privacy

A sheer filters hard sunlight into an even glow and keeps the view; it takes the glare off a white sofa without hiding the water. It gives no privacy at night with the lights on, so a bedroom takes a lined or blackout panel on a second track behind it, and it is not a blackout.

Cloth and care

100% polyester; 1.00 lb per yard; care WA-P (washable or dry clean). Polyester keeps its size and its pleat in humid air and after cleaning, and holds its colour in the sun better than a natural fibre. Listed as Oeko-Tex.

Limitations

No privacy at night with the lights on, and no blackout; it is layered where either is needed. At 57 in a wide panel is made of joined widths; the seams sit inside the pleats, and the repeat is matched at every seam, which costs yardage.

South Florida

Where Dutch works here

Dutch is a sheer we would put on the ocean side of a Sunny Isles or Fort Lauderdale living room, floor to ceiling on a ceiling-mounted track, with the fullness set for the cloth so the wave is even from end to end. It is seamed at each width, so it is best on windows rather than a long seamless wall. Layered over a solar roller the room keeps its view by day; behind it a blackout panel on a second track takes care of the night.

For the same use, compare Dutch with Cage (sheer, 57 in, 3 colourways), Empire Voile 118 (sheer, 118 in railroaded, 69 colourways) and Base (sheer, 118 in railroaded, 27 colourways); the table on each page lists the width, content, care code, fire listings and weight side by side.

Good to Know

Dutch: frequently asked

How many colours does Alendel Dutch come in?

3 colourways by Alendel's listing, all 3 flagged in stock by Alendel. Every one is on this page with its swatch, colour code and FB item number, and we bring the shortlist to the consultation so the colour is judged in your own light.

Does Dutch pass NFPA 701?

Yes by Alendel's listing: Dutch passes NFPA 701 and FMVSS 302. NFPA 701 is the flame test a condo association, a hotel or an office asks for on drapery; where a project needs the certificate we request it from Alendel before the cloth is ordered.

Is Dutch washable?

Alendel gives it care code WA-P (washable or dry clean), so yes: it can be washed, and dry cleaned as well where the code allows it. Alendel's instruction reads: washable + dryclean - iron on reverse side. The code is in the specification table below for every colourway.

What does Dutch cost made up as sheers?

It is quoted from the yardage: the width and height of the window, the fullness, the repeat if there is one, the lining and the track or rod. The pricing page has real numbers for sheers, motorized tracks and blackout draperies, and a quote for Dutch follows from a measure. Ask for a price with the button above and we come back with a figure, not a range.
