A sheer at 118 in, railroaded to run seamless, in 27 colourways
Alendel lists Base as a sheer in 27 colourways, in 67% recycled polyester and 33% polyester, at 118 in wide, railroaded. The card is Milk, Angel, Ballerina, Chess, Cliff, Cotton, Croissant, Dove plus 19 more; Alendel files them under white, pink, black, grey, beige and green. 26 of the 27 flagged in stock by Alendel. At 118 in the cloth is turned sideways and the width becomes the height, so a window wall up to about 9 ft 10 in tall carries no seam at all; that is the wide-width advantage on floor-to-ceiling glass. Polyester holds its pleat and its size in humid air and after cleaning, and stands up to Florida sun better than cotton or linen does. Alendel lists the weight at 0.55 lb per yard, medium-weight for a sheer. Care is WA-P (washable or dry clean). It passes NFPA 701 and CAN/ULC S109, the drapery flame tests asked for on commercial and condo common-area work in the US and Canada; and FMVSS 302, the automotive interior test. Every colourway is listed as Oeko-Tex. Country of origin, as Alendel lists it: India.
What Base does at the window, and what it does not
Best use
Sheers are our most requested drapery and Base is used as one: floor to ceiling on a ceiling-mounted track, ripplefold or pinch pleat, set at 2.5 to 3 times fullness so the wave is even from end to end. The wide width means a whole wall in one piece.
Light and privacy
A sheer filters hard sunlight into an even glow and keeps the view; it takes the glare off a white sofa without hiding the water. It gives no privacy at night with the lights on, so a bedroom takes a lined or blackout panel on a second track behind it, and it is not a blackout.
Cloth and care
67% recycled polyester and 33% polyester; 0.55 lb per yard; care WA-P (washable or dry clean). Polyester keeps its size and its pleat in humid air and after cleaning, and holds its colour in the sun better than a natural fibre. Listed as Oeko-Tex.
Limitations
No privacy at night with the lights on, and no blackout; it is layered where either is needed. Railroaded wide-width goods are not cut into Roman shades; for a matching Roman we pick a 54 inch cloth from the same book. The seamless drop tops out at about 9 ft 10 in; a taller wall is seamed or turned back up the roll. 1 of the 27 colour is not flagged in stock, so that colour is a mill order with a longer lead time; we confirm stock before anything is cut.
