Alendel Drapery Fabrics
2993 colourways in 274 drapery patterns: 54 inch plains, prints, jacquards, embroideries and velvets, 118 inch railroaded goods and the decorative blackouts. Every swatch and every Alendel specification, sewn in Fort Lauderdale.
The opaque cloth, from a 54 inch print to a 118 inch blackout
This page is every opaque cloth Alendel lists for drapery or multipurpose use, 2993 colourways in 274 patterns. It runs from the 54 to 60 inch goods that make up like a classic drapery cloth, plains, prints on cotton, jacquards, embroideries, chenilles and velvets, to the wide-width plains at 118 inches and over that railroad across a wall of glass, and the decorative blackouts, cloths that block light on their own without a separate blackout lining. Alendel types each one, and the type filter below sorts the page by it.
What a drapery cloth does, it does closed: full privacy, and a light level that the lining decides. Light-filtering lining keeps a living room glowing, thermal or bump interlining adds body and quiet, blackout lining turns a bedroom dark, and a decorative blackout does the last job in the face cloth itself. The rest of the choice is in Alendel's numbers, laid out on every pattern page: the width, which decides seams and Roman shades, the repeat, which decides yardage, the care code, the fire listings, the weight the track has to carry and the stock flag.
The drapery cloths we reach for first
The widest in-stock ranges among Alendel's drapery patterns, the plains and blackouts a whole house can be matched from. Every pattern on the page is listed below with a filter.

How to choose an Alendel drapery fabric
Plain or pattern
A plain has no repeat, so the yardage is the window and the fullness and nothing else, and it takes any pleat: pinch, Euro, inverted, ripplefold. A print, a jacquard or an embroidery has a repeat that we match at every seam and from window to window, which adds yardage and is part of the quote. The pattern style filter above sorts plains from stripes, botanicals, geometrics and damasks.
54 inch or wide-width
Goods at 54 to 60 inches run up the roll and are seamed at each width, seams inside the pleats; they also make Roman shades. Goods at 118 inches and over are railroaded, so a wall of glass runs seamless up to the width as a drop, and they do not make Roman shades. A room with a window wall and a pair of side windows often takes one of each from the same book.
Lining, or a blackout cloth
Every drapery we sew is lined; the lining carries the UV load off the face cloth, which is what keeps a cotton or a linen from fading on west glass. Where the room has to be dark, a blackout lining does it behind any cloth on this page, or a decorative blackout does it in the cloth itself, with wall returns and a centre overlap sewn in so the darkness is real.
Weight and the hardware
Alendel lists the weight per yard, and it decides the rod or track: a 118 inch plain at a pound a yard hangs on any track we use, a 56 inch velvet at nearly two pounds needs a track or a rod sized for it, and a light decorative rod will bow under either across a wide span. We settle the hardware before the cloth is cut.
Fire listings, care codes and what they mean for a drapery
Alendel prints the flame tests each colourway has passed, and on this page they matter in two directions. A residence needs none of them. A condo common area, a hotel, a restaurant or an office is asked for NFPA 701 on its drapery, and CAN/ULC S109 is the Canadian equivalent; the fire listing filter above finds the cloths that carry them, and where a project needs the certificate we request it from Alendel before the cloth is ordered. CAL 117, NFPA 260 and UFAC Class 1 are upholstery tests and FMVSS 302 is automotive; they show up on the multipurpose cloths because Alendel sells those for furniture as well, and they say nothing about drapery use either way.
The care code is the other line worth reading before the colour. WA-P, the commonest code on this page, means the cloth can be washed or dry cleaned; P means professional dry clean; S means dry clean or a solvent spot clean; W and WS are spot cleaning only, which is normal for a velvet or a chenille. A drapery is cleaned rarely, so the code matters less than it does on a sheer, but a kitchen Roman or a cloth at a door that gets handled is worth choosing with the code in mind. Alendel's own instruction line is on the pattern page beside the code.
Abrasion rubs and the pilling class are upholstery measures that Alendel lists on its multipurpose cloths. On a drapery they are not a selection criterion, but a high rub count on a cloth that will be handled every day at a door, or on a Roman shade that is raised and lowered, is worth having. Oeko-Tex is flagged per colourway and filtered above; country of origin is the mill's country as Alendel gives it.

Where these drapery fabrics go on our installations
An Alendel drapery cloth is made up the way our published drapery projects were: an FR blackout drapery on two bent motorized tracks closing around a master bedroom's angled windows in Boca Raton, stacking clear of the glass; pinch-pleat chenille and striped sheers hand-drawn on decorative rods over Central Park at Fasano Fifth Avenue; a master bedroom ripplefold in performance chenille under a custom wood valance at a golf course home in Boca Raton. Pinch pleat, Euro pleat, inverted and goblet pleats are hand-finished in our Fort Lauderdale workroom, ripplefold is set on snap tape at 80, 100 or 120 percent fullness, hems are weighted and every panel is lined or interlined. The pricing page has real figures for lined draperies on motorized tracks and for blackout draperies; a quote for a specific Alendel cloth follows from a measure.
Drapery fabrics: frequently asked
Which Alendel drapery fabrics block light on their own?
The decorative blackouts, typed Decorative Blackout by Alendel and found with the type filter above. The cloth itself stops light, so no separate blackout lining is needed; how dark the room gets is then decided by the wall returns and the centre overlap we sew in. Any other cloth on this page becomes a blackout drapery with a blackout lining behind it.
Do I need a fire-rated fabric for my home?
No. Residential drapery is not asked for a flame test. A condo common area, a hotel, a restaurant or an office is asked for NFPA 701, and the fire listing filter finds the Alendel cloths that carry it by the mill's listing; where a project needs the certificate we request it from Alendel before ordering.
What is the difference between a 54 inch and a 118 inch drapery cloth?
The direction it runs. A 54 inch cloth runs up the roll, is seamed at each width and makes Roman shades as well as panels. A 118 inch cloth is railroaded, so the width becomes the drop and a wall of glass up to about nine feet ten runs seamless, but it is not cut into Roman shades. Both are on this page and the width filter separates them.
Will a cotton or linen drapery fade in Florida sun?
Any natural fibre will on unshaded west glass if it is hung unlined. We line every drapery, and the lining carries the UV load; on a west window we line generously and, where the client wants it, add a solar roller behind. Polyester holds its colour better, which is one reason Alendel's wide-width plains are polyester.
Can a drapery and a Roman shade be made from the same Alendel cloth?
Yes, from any cloth at 60 inches or narrower, which is the Roman shade fabrics page. Panels in the living room and a flat-fold Roman over the kitchen sink are cut from one bolt in one dye lot, with the repeat matched between them, so the rooms read as one scheme.
Can these draperies be motorized?
Yes, on Lutron or Somfy tracks, and on bent tracks that follow a bay or a corner. The track is chosen for the weight Alendel lists for the cloth and for the span; heavy velvets and long runs get a track rated for them. See motorized drapes.
