2 colourways of a print with a 24.75 by 27.25 in repeat, 56 in wide

Alendel lists Beekman as a print in 2 colourways, in 75% cotton and 25% linen, at 56 in wide. The colours run Breeze and Evening, across the blue and black families. 1 of the 2 flagged in stock by Alendel. It sits in Alendel's C.I. Lexington Book.

The 56 in width runs up the roll, so panels are made of joined widths with the seams hidden in the pleats, and a Roman shade under about 50 inches finished is cut from a single width. The repeat is vertical 24.75 in, horizontal 27.25 in, matched across seams and from window to window, so the yardage is figured on the repeat rather than the finished size. The linen in it relaxes and tightens with the humidity, which is the look, and like every natural fibre it wants a lining that takes the UV rather than the face cloth. Alendel lists the weight at 1.00 lb per yard, substantial for a print, so the track or rod is sized to carry it. Care is S (dry clean, or spot clean with a dry-cleaning solvent); Alendel's own line reads: spot clean with water-free dry-cleaning solvent. It carries CAL 117, NFPA 260 and UFAC Class 1, the upholstery flammability listings. Country of origin, as Alendel lists it: Pakistan.

Best Use & Limits

What Beekman does at the window, and what it does not

Best use

Beekman works both ways from the same bolt: pinch pleat, Euro pleat or ripplefold panels in the main rooms and flat, relaxed or hobbled Roman shades on the secondary windows, so the kitchen, study and baths read as one scheme with the living room.

Light and privacy

Closed, Beekman gives full privacy. What the room looks like closed comes from the lining we sew in: light-filtering for living areas, interlining for body and acoustics, blackout for bedrooms. The lining also carries the UV load off the face cloth.

Cloth and care

75% cotton and 25% linen; 1.00 lb per yard; care S (dry clean, or spot clean with a dry-cleaning solvent); 20,000 rubs abrasion. Cotton and linen are lined here for the sun, and they move a little with the humidity, which is part of the look.

Limitations

At 56 in a wide panel is made of joined widths; the seams sit inside the pleats, and the repeat is matched at every seam, which costs yardage. Not for a wet bathroom or a shower window. The weight needs a track or rod sized for it; a light decorative rod will bow. 1 of the 2 colour is not flagged in stock, so that colour is a mill order with a longer lead time; we confirm stock before anything is cut.

Width, content, repeat, care code, fire listings and weight per yard are Alendel's own listing for each colourway, captured from its trade catalogue; the stock flag is Alendel's public availability filter on the day we read it and is confirmed against the order before anything is cut. South Florida

Where Beekman works here

On a Coral Gables or Boca Raton house Beekman runs as pinch pleat or Euro pleat panels on decorative rods in the main rooms and as flat-fold Roman shades over the kitchen sink and in the powder room, matched bolt for bolt. Every panel and shade comes out of the same Fort Lauderdale workroom, and our own team installs from Miami to Palm Beach.

For the same use, compare Beekman with Somerset (print, 54 in, 6 colourways), Ironwork (print, 54 in, 3 colourways) and Lombard (print, 56 in, 3 colourways); the table on each page lists the width, content, care code, fire listings and weight side by side.

Good to Know

Beekman: frequently asked

How many colours does Alendel Beekman come in?

2 colourways by Alendel's listing, 1 of the 2 flagged in stock by Alendel. Every one is on this page with its swatch, colour code and FB item number, and we bring the shortlist to the consultation so the colour is judged in your own light.

Do you match the Beekman repeat?

Always. Alendel lists the repeat at vertical 24.75 in, horizontal 27.25 in, and we match it across every seam and every window in the room, so the yardage is figured on the repeat rather than the finished size and is part of the quote.

Is Beekman a fire-rated fabric?

Alendel lists it as passing CAL 117, NFPA 260 and UFAC Class 1, which are upholstery tests rather than the drapery flame test. For a residence that is not an issue; for a commercial or condo common-area job that asks for NFPA 701 we would pick a listed cloth or arrange a treated lining and a certificate for the project.

What does Beekman cost made up as Roman shades and draperies?

It is quoted from the yardage: the width and height of the window, the fullness, the repeat if there is one, the lining and the track or rod. The pricing page has real numbers for sheers, motorized tracks and blackout draperies, and a quote for Beekman follows from a measure. Ask for a price with the button above and we come back with a figure, not a range.
