Prima is one of the Alendel velvets we make up here, with 35 colourways on the card, in 100% polyester, at 57 in wide. The colours run Pond, Porcini, Punch, Purple, Raven, Saffron, Spa, Storm and 27 more, across the blue, beige, pink, purple, black and orange families. 34 of the 35 flagged in stock by Alendel. It sits in Alendel's Prima Book.
The 57 in width runs up the roll, so panels are made of joined widths with the seams hidden in the pleats, and a Roman shade under about 50 inches finished is cut from a single width. Being polyester it holds a pleat, keeps its size through humidity and a wash or a dry clean, and takes the sun better than a natural fibre, which matters on unshaded glass here. Alendel lists the weight at 1.67 lb per yard, heavy for a velvet, so the track or rod is sized to carry it. Care is WA-P (washable or dry clean). It carries CAL 117, NFPA 260 and UFAC Class 1, the upholstery flammability listings; and FMVSS 302, the automotive interior test. Every colourway is listed as Oeko-Tex. What Prima does at the window, and what it does not
Best use
Prima is a velvet, so it is a drapery for a room that wants weight and quiet: formal living rooms, a dining room, a study, a bedroom with the pile on the room side. It also makes a Roman shade, flat fold, lined, on a headrail sized for the weight.
Light and privacy
An opaque cloth, so privacy is complete when it is closed. The light is decided by the lining: light-filtering keeps a living room glowing, thermal or bump interlining adds body and quiet, blackout turns a bedroom dark. Prima is lined in every case; on west glass we line generously so the face does not fade.
Cloth and care
100% polyester; 1.67 lb per yard; care WA-P (washable or dry clean); 200,000 rubs abrasion. Polyester keeps its size and its pleat in humid air and after cleaning, and holds its colour in the sun better than a natural fibre. Listed as Oeko-Tex. Finish: Soil & Stain Repellent.
Limitations
At 57 in a wide panel is made of joined widths; the seams sit inside the pleats. The weight needs a track or rod sized for it; a light decorative rod will bow. 1 of the 35 colour is not flagged in stock, so that colour is a mill order with a longer lead time; we confirm stock before anything is cut.
