Open is one of the Alendel drapery cloths we make up here, with 17 colourways on the card, in 100% polyester, at 120 in wide, railroaded. The card is Amethyst, Concrete, Greige, Industrial, Mist, Nautical, Sage, Sandstone plus 9 more; Alendel files them under purple, grey, blue, green, beige and white. At 120 in the cloth is turned sideways and the width becomes the height, so a window wall up to about 10 ft tall carries no seam at all; that is the wide-width advantage on floor-to-ceiling glass. Polyester holds its pleat and its size in humid air and after cleaning, and stands up to Florida sun better than cotton or linen does. It weighs 1.74 lb per yard by Alendel's listing, and a cloth of that weight is hung on a track or rod sized for it. Care is WA-P (washable or dry clean). It passes NFPA 701, the flame test a condo association, hotel or office asks for on drapery; it also carries CAL 117, NFPA 260 and UFAC Class 1, the upholstery flammability listings; and FMVSS 302, the automotive interior test. Every colourway is listed as Oeko-Tex. Country of origin, as Alendel lists it: India.
What Open does at the window, and what it does not
Best use
Open is a drapery cloth at 120 in, railroaded, so it is for panels rather than Roman shades: ripplefold or pinch pleat on a track, floor to ceiling across a wall of glass with no seam.
Light and privacy
Closed, Open gives full privacy. What the room looks like closed comes from the lining we sew in: light-filtering for living areas, interlining for body and acoustics, blackout for bedrooms. The lining also carries the UV load off the face cloth.
Cloth and care
100% polyester; 1.74 lb per yard; care WA-P (washable or dry clean); 20,000 rubs abrasion. Polyester keeps its size and its pleat in humid air and after cleaning, and holds its colour in the sun better than a natural fibre. Listed as Oeko-Tex.
Limitations
Railroaded wide-width goods are not cut into Roman shades; for a matching Roman we pick a 54 inch cloth from the same book. The weight needs a track or rod sized for it; a light decorative rod will bow.

Open is a wide-width drapery cloth, so it goes on the big glass: ripplefold on a ceiling track across a Brickell living room wall, motorized on Lutron or Somfy so thirty feet of fabric glides open in silence, lined for the sun. It is cut and sewn in our Fort Lauderdale workroom and installed by our own team from Miami to Palm Beach.
