Alendel lists Square as a jacquard in 4 colourways, in 100% polyester, at 55 in wide. The colours run Angora, Wool, Cinder and Thunder, across the yellow, beige and grey families. All 4 flagged in stock by Alendel. It sits in Alendel's Bryant Park Book.
The 55 in width runs up the roll, so panels are made of joined widths with the seams hidden in the pleats, and a Roman shade under about 50 inches finished is cut from a single width. The repeat is vertical 9.75 in, horizontal 9 in, matched across seams and from window to window, so the yardage is figured on the repeat rather than the finished size. Polyester holds its pleat and its size in humid air and after cleaning, and stands up to Florida sun better than cotton or linen does. It weighs 0.71 lb per yard by Alendel's listing, which is on the light side. Care is WA-P (washable or dry clean); Alendel's own line reads: washable, dry clean. It passes NFPA 701, the flame test a condo association, hotel or office asks for on drapery; and FMVSS 302, the automotive interior test. Every colourway is listed as Oeko-Tex. What Square does at the window, and what it does not
Best use
We make Square up as draperies and as Roman shades, and the two are ordered from one bolt so the repeat and the dye lot match from room to room. A abstract jacquard shows best on a flat-fold Roman, where the folds do not break the design.
Light and privacy
An opaque cloth, so privacy is complete when it is closed. The light is decided by the lining: light-filtering keeps a living room glowing, thermal or bump interlining adds body and quiet, blackout turns a bedroom dark. Square is lined in every case; on west glass we line generously so the face does not fade.
Cloth and care
100% polyester; 0.71 lb per yard; care WA-P (washable or dry clean); 20,000 rubs abrasion. Polyester keeps its size and its pleat in humid air and after cleaning, and holds its colour in the sun better than a natural fibre. Listed as Oeko-Tex.
Limitations
At 55 in a wide panel is made of joined widths; the seams sit inside the pleats, and the repeat is matched at every seam, which costs yardage.
