Major is a plain from Alendel, listed in 12 colourways, in 100% polyester, at 56 in wide. The 56 in width runs up the roll, so panels are made of joined widths with the seams hidden in the pleats, and a Roman shade under about 50 inches finished is cut from a single width. Being polyester it holds a pleat, keeps its size through humidity and a wash or a dry clean, and takes the sun better than a natural fibre, which matters on unshaded glass here. Alendel lists the weight at 0.65 lb per yard, medium-weight for a plain. Care is WA-P (washable or dry clean). It passes NFPA 701, the flame test a condo association, hotel or office asks for on drapery; and FMVSS 302, the automotive interior test. Every colourway is listed as Oeko-Tex. What Major does at the window, and what it does not
Best use
We make Major up as draperies and as Roman shades, and the two are ordered from one bolt so the repeat and the dye lot match from room to room. A plain like this takes a relaxed or hobbled fold as well as a flat one.
Light and privacy
Closed, Major gives full privacy. What the room looks like closed comes from the lining we sew in: light-filtering for living areas, interlining for body and acoustics, blackout for bedrooms. The lining also carries the UV load off the face cloth.
Cloth and care
100% polyester; 0.65 lb per yard; care WA-P (washable or dry clean); 20,000 rubs abrasion. Polyester keeps its size and its pleat in humid air and after cleaning, and holds its colour in the sun better than a natural fibre. Listed as Oeko-Tex.
Limitations
At 56 in a wide panel is made of joined widths; the seams sit inside the pleats.
