Meteor is a drapery cloth from Alendel, listed in 25 colourways, in 100% recycled polyester, at 118 in wide, railroaded. The card is Divine, Clover, Candle, Cream, Aqua, Chess, Dove, Eclipse plus 17 more; Alendel files them under white, green, beige, blue, black and grey. All 25 flagged in stock by Alendel. It sits in Alendel's Starburst Book.
At 118 in the cloth is turned sideways and the width becomes the height, so a window wall up to about 9 ft 10 in tall carries no seam at all; that is the wide-width advantage on floor-to-ceiling glass. Polyester holds its pleat and its size in humid air and after cleaning, and stands up to Florida sun better than cotton or linen does. Alendel lists the weight at 2.30 lb per yard, heavy for a drapery cloth, so the track or rod is sized to carry it. Care is WA-P (washable or dry clean). It passes NFPA 701 and CAN/ULC S109, the drapery flame tests asked for on commercial and condo common-area work in the US and Canada; it also carries CAL 117, NFPA 260 and UFAC Class 1, the upholstery flammability listings; and FMVSS 302, the automotive interior test. Every colourway is listed as Oeko-Tex. Country of origin, as Alendel lists it: China.
What Meteor does at the window, and what it does not
Best use
Meteor is a drapery cloth at 118 in, railroaded, so it is for panels rather than Roman shades: ripplefold or pinch pleat on a track, floor to ceiling across a wall of glass with no seam.
Light and privacy
An opaque cloth, so privacy is complete when it is closed. The light is decided by the lining: light-filtering keeps a living room glowing, thermal or bump interlining adds body and quiet, blackout turns a bedroom dark. Meteor is lined in every case; on west glass we line generously so the face does not fade.
Cloth and care
100% recycled polyester; 2.30 lb per yard; care WA-P (washable or dry clean); 100,000 rubs abrasion. Polyester keeps its size and its pleat in humid air and after cleaning, and holds its colour in the sun better than a natural fibre. Listed as Oeko-Tex.
Limitations
Railroaded wide-width goods are not cut into Roman shades; for a matching Roman we pick a 54 inch cloth from the same book. The weight needs a track or rod sized for it; a light decorative rod will bow.
