A velvet in 100% polyester, 54 in wide, in 3 colourways

Corona is one of the Alendel velvets we make up here, with 3 colourways on the card, in 100% polyester, at 54 in wide. The colours run Diamond, Metallic and Moonshine, across the white and grey families. All 3 flagged in stock by Alendel. It sits in Alendel's C.I. Silvercloud Book.

The 54 in width runs up the roll, so panels are made of joined widths with the seams hidden in the pleats, and a Roman shade under about 50 inches finished is cut from a single width. The repeat is vertical 7.375 in, horizontal 13.75 in, matched across seams and from window to window, so the yardage is figured on the repeat rather than the finished size. Being polyester it holds a pleat, keeps its size through humidity and a wash or a dry clean, and takes the sun better than a natural fibre, which matters on unshaded glass here. It weighs 1.71 lb per yard by Alendel's listing, and a cloth of that weight is hung on a track or rod sized for it. Care is WA-P (washable or dry clean); Alendel's own line reads: washable, dry clean. It carries CAL 117, NFPA 260 and UFAC Class 1, the upholstery flammability listings; and FMVSS 302, the automotive interior test. Every colourway is listed as Oeko-Tex. Country of origin, as Alendel lists it: India.

Best Use & Limits

What Corona does at the window, and what it does not

Best use

Corona is a velvet, so it is a drapery for a room that wants weight and quiet: formal living rooms, a dining room, a study, a bedroom with the pile on the room side. It also makes a Roman shade, flat fold, lined, on a headrail sized for the weight.

Light and privacy

An opaque cloth, so privacy is complete when it is closed. The light is decided by the lining: light-filtering keeps a living room glowing, thermal or bump interlining adds body and quiet, blackout turns a bedroom dark. Corona is lined in every case; on west glass we line generously so the face does not fade.

Cloth and care

100% polyester; 1.71 lb per yard; care WA-P (washable or dry clean); 200,000 rubs abrasion. Polyester keeps its size and its pleat in humid air and after cleaning, and holds its colour in the sun better than a natural fibre. Listed as Oeko-Tex.

Limitations

At 54 in a wide panel is made of joined widths; the seams sit inside the pleats, and the repeat is matched at every seam, which costs yardage. The weight needs a track or rod sized for it; a light decorative rod will bow.

Width, content, repeat, care code, fire listings and weight per yard are Alendel's own listing for each colourway, captured from its trade catalogue; the stock flag is Alendel's public availability filter on the day we read it and is confirmed against the order before anything is cut. Where Corona works here

Corona is the kind of cloth our drapery clients in Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Boca Raton and Palm Beach order for the secondary windows as well as the main ones: panels in the living room, flat or relaxed Roman shades in the kitchen, study and baths, from one bolt so the rooms read together. Humidity and sun decide the lining; over a bathtub we advise a moisture-tolerant weave, and on a west window we line generously.

For the same use, compare Corona with Regency (velvet, 55 in, 3 colourways), Venetian (velvet, 56 in, 3 colourways) and Cast (plain, 57 in, 3 colourways); the table on each page lists the width, content, care code, fire listings and weight side by side.

Good to Know

Corona: frequently asked

How many colours does Alendel Corona come in?

3 colourways by Alendel's listing, all 3 flagged in stock by Alendel. Every one is on this page with its swatch, colour code and FB item number, and we bring the shortlist to the consultation so the colour is judged in your own light.

Is Corona Oeko-Tex?

Alendel lists every Corona colourway as Oeko-Tex, the textile-chemistry listing. Where a client or a project wants the paperwork we request it from Alendel before the cloth is ordered.

Can Corona be made into a Roman shade?

Yes. At 54 in it is cut up the roll, so a flat, relaxed or hobbled Roman shade comes from a single width up to roughly 50 inches finished and is seamed on a fold line beyond that. Lined, interlined or blackout-lined, cordless or on a Lutron or Somfy motor, sewn in the same workroom as the panels.

What does Corona cost made up as Roman shades and draperies?

It is quoted from the yardage: the width and height of the window, the fullness, the repeat if there is one, the lining and the track or rod. The pricing page has real numbers for sheers, motorized tracks and blackout draperies, and a quote for Corona follows from a measure. Ask for a price with the button above and we come back with a figure, not a range.
