Alendel lists Echo as a plain in 30 colourways, in 76% viscose and 24% linen, at 55 in wide. The card is Berry, Bone, Breeze, Cement, Ink, Leather, Linen, Mist plus 22 more; Alendel files them under pink, beige, blue, grey, black and brown. All 30 flagged in stock by Alendel. The 55 in width runs up the roll, so panels are made of joined widths with the seams hidden in the pleats, and a Roman shade under about 50 inches finished is cut from a single width. Linen brings the slub and the matte hand, and it moves a little with the humidity, which is part of its character; it wants a lining that carries the UV load, and on a west window we line generously so the face does not fade. It weighs 1.06 lb per yard by Alendel's listing, and a cloth of that weight is hung on a track or rod sized for it. Care is P (professional dry clean); Alendel's own line reads: dry clean only. What Echo does at the window, and what it does not
Best use
We make Echo up as draperies and as Roman shades, and the two are ordered from one bolt so the repeat and the dye lot match from room to room. A plain like this takes a relaxed or hobbled fold as well as a flat one.
Light and privacy
Closed, Echo gives full privacy. What the room looks like closed comes from the lining we sew in: light-filtering for living areas, interlining for body and acoustics, blackout for bedrooms. The lining also carries the UV load off the face cloth.
Cloth and care
76% viscose and 24% linen; 1.06 lb per yard; care P (professional dry clean); 10,000 rubs abrasion. Cotton and linen are lined here for the sun, and they move a little with the humidity, which is part of the look. Listed as Oeko-Tex.
Limitations
At 55 in a wide panel is made of joined widths; the seams sit inside the pleats. Not for a wet bathroom or a shower window. The weight needs a track or rod sized for it; a light decorative rod will bow.
