9 colourways of heavy velvet, 57.48 in wide

Alendel lists Debutant as a velvet in 9 colourways, in 63% polyester and 37% viscose, at 57.48 in wide. The colours run Teal, Golden, Apple, Tinsel, Stream, Gazelle, Mineral, Grape and 1 more, across the blue, yellow, green, brown, grey and purple families. 8 of the 9 flagged in stock by Alendel. It sits in Alendel's C.I. Lavish Book.

The 57.48 in width runs up the roll, so panels are made of joined widths with the seams hidden in the pleats, and a Roman shade under about 50 inches finished is cut from a single width. Alendel gives the repeat as vertical 17.91 in, horizontal 14.17 in; we match it across every seam and every window in the room, which adds yardage and is part of the quote. The viscose is what gives it the lustre; it is lined for the sun and kept out of wet rooms. Alendel lists the weight at 1.69 lb per yard, heavy for a velvet, so the track or rod is sized to carry it. Care is WA-P (washable or dry clean). It carries CAL 117, NFPA 260 and UFAC Class 1, the upholstery flammability listings; and FMVSS 302, the automotive interior test. Every colourway is listed as Oeko-Tex. Country of origin, as Alendel lists it: India.

Best Use & Limits

What Debutant does at the window, and what it does not

Best use

Debutant is a velvet, so it is a drapery for a room that wants weight and quiet: formal living rooms, a dining room, a study, a bedroom with the pile on the room side. It also makes a Roman shade, flat fold, lined, on a headrail sized for the weight.

Light and privacy

An opaque cloth, so privacy is complete when it is closed. The light is decided by the lining: light-filtering keeps a living room glowing, thermal or bump interlining adds body and quiet, blackout turns a bedroom dark. Debutant is lined in every case; on west glass we line generously so the face does not fade.

Cloth and care

63% polyester and 37% viscose; 1.69 lb per yard; care WA-P (washable or dry clean); 200,000 rubs abrasion. Viscose gives the lustre and is kept out of wet rooms. Listed as Oeko-Tex.

Limitations

At 57.48 in a wide panel is made of joined widths; the seams sit inside the pleats, and the repeat is matched at every seam, which costs yardage. The weight needs a track or rod sized for it; a light decorative rod will bow. 1 of the 9 colour is not flagged in stock, so that colour is a mill order with a longer lead time; we confirm stock before anything is cut.

Width, content, repeat, care code, fire listings and weight per yard are Alendel's own listing for each colourway, captured from its trade catalogue; the stock flag is Alendel's public availability filter on the day we read it and is confirmed against the order before anything is cut. We bring the Alendel books to the consultation.

Where Debutant works here

Debutant is the kind of cloth our drapery clients in Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Boca Raton and Palm Beach order for the secondary windows as well as the main ones: panels in the living room, flat or relaxed Roman shades in the kitchen, study and baths, from one bolt so the rooms read together. Humidity and sun decide the lining; over a bathtub we advise a moisture-tolerant weave, and on a west window we line generously.

For the same use, compare Debutant with Versailles (velvet, 55.91 in, 5 colourways), Splendor (velvet, 56.69 in, 5 colourways) and Grandiose (velvet, 55.12 in, 5 colourways); the table on each page lists the width, content, care code, fire listings and weight side by side.

Good to Know

Debutant: frequently asked

How many colours does Alendel Debutant come in?

9 colourways by Alendel's listing, 8 of the 9 flagged in stock by Alendel. Every one is on this page with its swatch, colour code and FB item number, and we bring the shortlist to the consultation so the colour is judged in your own light.

Do you match the Debutant repeat?

Always. Alendel lists the repeat at vertical 17.91 in, horizontal 14.17 in, and we match it across every seam and every window in the room, so the yardage is figured on the repeat rather than the finished size and is part of the quote.

Can Debutant be made into a Roman shade?

Yes. At 57.48 in it is cut up the roll, so a flat, relaxed or hobbled Roman shade comes from a single width up to roughly 50 inches finished and is seamed on a fold line beyond that. Lined, interlined or blackout-lined, cordless or on a Lutron or Somfy motor, sewn in the same workroom as the panels.

What does Debutant cost made up as Roman shades and draperies?

It is quoted from the yardage: the width and height of the window, the fullness, the repeat if there is one, the lining and the track or rod. The pricing page has real numbers for sheers, motorized tracks and blackout draperies, and a quote for Debutant follows from a measure. Ask for a price with the button above and we come back with a figure, not a range.
