At 56 in it is cut up the roll like a conventional drapery cloth: a panel joins widths at the seam, which sits inside a pleat, and a Roman shade takes one width up to roughly 50 inches finished before it needs a joined width. The repeat is vertical 6.3 in, horizontal 5.5 in, matched across seams and from window to window, so the yardage is figured on the repeat rather than the finished size. A cotton ground reads matte and takes colour well, and it is lined for the sun: the lining carries the UV and the face keeps its colour. It weighs 1.42 lb per yard by Alendel's listing, and a cloth of that weight is hung on a track or rod sized for it. Care is P (professional dry clean); Alendel's own line reads: dry clean only. do not bleach, do not tumble, hang to dry, warm iron. Best use
We make Brooklyn up as draperies and as Roman shades, and the two are ordered from one bolt so the repeat and the dye lot match from room to room. A abstract embroidery shows best on a flat-fold Roman, where the folds do not break the design.
Light and privacy
An opaque cloth, so privacy is complete when it is closed. The light is decided by the lining: light-filtering keeps a living room glowing, thermal or bump interlining adds body and quiet, blackout turns a bedroom dark. Brooklyn is lined in every case; on west glass we line generously so the face does not fade.
Cloth and care
60% cotton, 40% polyester embroidery and 100% cotton; 1.42 lb per yard; care P (professional dry clean). Cotton and linen are lined here for the sun, and they move a little with the humidity, which is part of the look. Listed as Oeko-Tex.
Limitations
At 56 in a wide panel is made of joined widths; the seams sit inside the pleats, and the repeat is matched at every seam, which costs yardage. Not for a wet bathroom or a shower window. The weight needs a track or rod sized for it; a light decorative rod will bow. No fire listing from Alendel, so a commercial or condo common-area job needs a certificate arranged for the project or another cloth.
