Gleam is one of the Alendel sheers we make up here, with 2 colourways on the card, in 80% polyester and 20% linen, at 122 in wide, railroaded. The colours run Wheat and Natural, across the beige and brown families. All 2 flagged in stock by Alendel. It sits in Alendel's Transparency Book.
The width is the reason to look at it: railroaded, the 122 in becomes the drop, so a wall of glass up to about 10 ft 2 in high runs seamless from end to end, which is how we sew sheers across an ocean wall. The linen in it relaxes and tightens with the humidity, which is the look, and like every natural fibre it wants a lining that takes the UV rather than the face cloth. Alendel lists the weight at 0.62 lb per yard, medium-weight for a sheer. Care is WA-P (washable or dry clean); Alendel's own line reads: washable, dry clean. Alendel lists no fire test for it, so it is a residential cloth unless a treated lining or a certificate is arranged for the project. Every colourway is listed as Oeko-Tex. It comes with a weighted hem in the selvedge, which is why the wide sheers hang plumb without a chain weight from us.
What Gleam does at the window, and what it does not
Best use
Sheers are our most requested drapery and Gleam is used as one: floor to ceiling on a ceiling-mounted track, ripplefold or pinch pleat, set at 2.5 to 3 times fullness so the wave is even from end to end. The wide width means a whole wall in one piece.
Light and privacy
A sheer filters hard sunlight into an even glow and keeps the view; it takes the glare off a white sofa without hiding the water. It gives no privacy at night with the lights on, so a bedroom takes a lined or blackout panel on a second track behind it, and it is not a blackout.
Cloth and care
80% polyester and 20% linen; 0.62 lb per yard; care WA-P (washable or dry clean). Cotton and linen are lined here for the sun, and they move a little with the humidity, which is part of the look. Listed as Oeko-Tex.
Limitations
No privacy at night with the lights on, and no blackout; it is layered where either is needed. Railroaded wide-width goods are not cut into Roman shades; for a matching Roman we pick a 54 inch cloth from the same book. The seamless drop tops out at about 10 ft 2 in; a taller wall is seamed or turned back up the roll. No fire listing from Alendel, so a commercial or condo common-area job needs a certificate arranged for the project or another cloth.
