The width is the reason to look at it: railroaded, the 121 in becomes the drop, so a wall of glass up to about 10 ft 1 in high runs seamless from end to end, which is how we sew sheers across an ocean wall. The repeat is vertical 0.7 in, horizontal 1.1 in, matched across seams and from window to window, so the yardage is figured on the repeat rather than the finished size. Linen brings the slub and the matte hand, and it moves a little with the humidity, which is part of its character; it wants a lining that carries the UV load, and on a west window we line generously so the face does not fade. It weighs 0.76 lb per yard by Alendel's listing, which is on the light side. Care is S (dry clean, or spot clean with a dry-cleaning solvent); Alendel's own line reads: dry clean only. What Whiskers does at the window, and what it does not
Best use
Whiskers is a sheer, so it goes where the point is daylight and the view: living rooms and dining rooms on the water, a wall of sliders, a bedroom by day with a blackout layer behind it for night. Railroaded at 121 in it runs seamless across a window wall on a ceiling track, ripplefold at 2.5 to 3 times fullness.
Light and privacy
By day it softens the light and frames the view. After dark, with the room lit, the room is visible from outside: sheers are layered with a blackout or lined panel where privacy matters, or with a solar roller behind for glare by day.
Cloth and care
50% viscose, 22% linen, 15% cotton and 13% polyester; 0.76 lb per yard; care S (dry clean, or spot clean with a dry-cleaning solvent). Cotton and linen are lined here for the sun, and they move a little with the humidity, which is part of the look. Listed as Oeko-Tex.
Limitations
No privacy at night with the lights on, and no blackout; it is layered where either is needed. Railroaded wide-width goods are not cut into Roman shades; for a matching Roman we pick a 54 inch cloth from the same book. The seamless drop tops out at about 10 ft 1 in; a taller wall is seamed or turned back up the roll. No fire listing from Alendel, so a commercial or condo common-area job needs a certificate arranged for the project or another cloth.
