Theory is one of the Alendel sheers we make up here, with 3 colourways on the card, in 66% cotton and 34% polyester, at 116 in wide, railroaded. The colours run Dune, White and Dove, across the beige, white and grey families. All 3 flagged in stock by Alendel. It sits in Alendel's Big Sheer Book 2.0.
At 116 in the cloth is turned sideways and the width becomes the height, so a window wall up to about 9 ft 8 in tall carries no seam at all; that is the wide-width advantage on floor-to-ceiling glass. The repeat is vertical 1.25 in, horizontal 1.37 in, matched across seams and from window to window, so the yardage is figured on the repeat rather than the finished size. A cotton ground reads matte and takes colour well, and it is lined for the sun: the lining carries the UV and the face keeps its colour. Alendel lists the weight at 0.28 lb per yard, light for a sheer. Care is S (dry clean, or spot clean with a dry-cleaning solvent); Alendel's own line reads: dry clean only. Alendel lists no fire test for it, so it is a residential cloth unless a treated lining or a certificate is arranged for the project. Every colourway is listed as Oeko-Tex. What Theory does at the window, and what it does not
Best use
Theory is a sheer, so it goes where the point is daylight and the view: living rooms and dining rooms on the water, a wall of sliders, a bedroom by day with a blackout layer behind it for night. Railroaded at 116 in it runs seamless across a window wall on a ceiling track, ripplefold at 2.5 to 3 times fullness.
Light and privacy
By day it softens the light and frames the view. After dark, with the room lit, the room is visible from outside: sheers are layered with a blackout or lined panel where privacy matters, or with a solar roller behind for glare by day.
Cloth and care
66% cotton and 34% polyester; 0.28 lb per yard; care S (dry clean, or spot clean with a dry-cleaning solvent). Cotton and linen are lined here for the sun, and they move a little with the humidity, which is part of the look. Listed as Oeko-Tex.
Limitations
No privacy at night with the lights on, and no blackout; it is layered where either is needed. Railroaded wide-width goods are not cut into Roman shades; for a matching Roman we pick a 54 inch cloth from the same book. The seamless drop tops out at about 9 ft 8 in; a taller wall is seamed or turned back up the roll. No fire listing from Alendel, so a commercial or condo common-area job needs a certificate arranged for the project or another cloth.
