Bedroom fabrics: the night first, then the heat
A bedroom fabric is chosen for the night first. A blackout passes no light, and the darkness then depends on side channels and caulked edges rather than on the fabric. By day the numbers still count. A white-backed blackout reflects 65% to 84% of the sun's energy off an east window before the room warms, and a honeycomb adds real insulation, R 3.5 light-filtering to R 4.4 room-darkening in Lutron's library. When the bedroom also has a view, a solar screen in a dual roller gives the day layer, and the openness and colour rules below apply to it.
