Blindspace® C Series custom boxes
When the standard pocket is not enough: a dual shade behind one hairline, a blackout shade in side channels, a tensioned shade over a skylight, a 15-foot sheer. Blindspace makes the C Series to the millimeter, and publishes the box for each system. These are the ones we specify.
Where the standard box stops
The C Series is the custom half of the Blindspace range: the same hinged cover and skim-coat flanges as the S Series, on a box fabricated to the size the shade needs. Blindspace builds it from a sheet aluminum back box with extruded front corners, in any width and depth, with five flange options and cover plates from 65 to 200 mm.
It is how a dual shade gets behind one hairline, how a blackout shade runs in side channels that are themselves plastered in, how a tensioned shade sits over a skylight, how a sheer spans a 15-foot opening, and how a sloped or gable window gets a pocket that follows the glass. Blindspace has drawn 181 C Series configurations in 73 box sizes; the ones for the Lutron and Crestron systems we install, and the unbranded rollers a Somfy motor drives, are tabled below by application.
The smallest box Blindspace draws for a Lutron roller is also a C box: the C89x89, for the R20 and R64 at 96 inches wide, for ceilings with nothing to spare.
Size, flanges, cover
One shade, a box sized to the roll
For a single roller the C box is chosen when the S Series does not fit the ceiling or the roll: the slim C89x89, the mid sizes, and the extra-large boxes up to the C200x200 that takes the Lutron R225 at 180 inches.

Tensioned shades over roof glazing run in channels on all four sides; corner windows get two boxes mitered or butted; gables and sloped heads get a box drawn to the angle.

C Series: frequently asked
When do you specify a C Series box instead of an S Series?
When the shade does not fit the standard pocket or the window is not a plain head. Dual rollers on one bracket or side by side, blackout shades in side channels, tensioned shades on skylights, mitered corners, gable and sloped heads, and rollers larger than the S130x130 drawings allow all move to a C box. Blindspace draws each of those for the systems it has measured, which is how we size them.
Which C box takes a Lutron dual shade?
For two shades on Lutron's dual bracket: C150x230 for the R20 and R64 (96 inches wide), C200x280 for the R100 and R150 (120 inches), C220x360 for the R225 (180 inches). Side by side rather than stacked: C260x130 for the R100 and R150, C380x200 for the R225. Each exists with and without side channels in Blindspace's drawings.
Which C box takes a blackout shade with side channels?
The same box as the single shade, drawn as an all-four-sides configuration with side boxes and a hem bar box: C100x100 for the Lutron R64, C130x130 for the R100 and R150, C200x200 for the R225, C110x110 and C150x150 for Crestron ARCH3 and ARCH5. The side boxes are 70 mm deep in those drawings and the hem bar box 50 mm.
What do you use over a skylight?
A tensioned roller with side channels in a four-sided frame. Blindspace draws the C155x150 for the Lutron QS 100 roof shade at up to 96 inches wide and 144 inches long, with 80 mm side boxes and a 150 mm hem bar box. For skylights on other systems the C Series pocket is sized the same way, from the system's own drawing.
What are the flange options on a C box?
Five, chosen for the finish: S, a skim-coat flange for plaster; U, an upstand flange; V, a visible plain flange; N, no flange; P, a perforated flange. The code follows the size, so a C130x130SS is a 130 x 130 mm box with skim-coat flanges on both sides. Covers run from 65 to 200 mm.
Can a C box be sloped or follow a gable?
Yes. Blindspace makes sloping head boxes for shaped shades and pelmets for gable windows; the C110x200 sloping head box is one of its published examples, and the PS130x128 gable pelmet is in its drawings. We measure the glass, the box is drawn to it, and the framing contractor gets the drawing before the ceiling is built.
How is a C Series box made?
To the drawing, in aluminum: a sheet back box with extruded front corners, the same safety hinge as the S Series and cover plates from 65 to 200 mm, cut to the finished length or in stock lengths and spliced. Powder coated white or to a RAL color, or raw aluminum; the cover can also be primed and painted on site.
