Mermet Flocké Fabric
5 colourways, blackout, up to 94.5 inches wide. Every swatch and every published specification, from the workroom that cuts Mermet in Fort Lauderdale and installs it from Miami to Palm Beach.
A flock-backed fiberglass blackout with a European fire listing
Flocké is the heaviest blackout in the Mermet range and the one with the most listings behind it: 42% fiberglass and 51% acrylic with a soft flocked back, 15.93 oz per square yard, 94.5 inches wide, Tv 0 and about 100% UV blockage. It carries the widest set of fire listings in this library, NFPA 701 TM#1, California Title 19, CAN/ULC-S109, DIN 4102-1 (B1) and NF P 92 507 (M1), which is what puts it into hospitality and international specifications where the polyester blackouts cannot go. Every colourway has a photograph of its reverse face on this page.
The card is five colours, Blanc, Sahel, Mississippi, Chartreux and Loutre, the same names as Vizela, the fiberglass light-filtering weave, so a room can run a Vizela daytime shade and a Flocké blackout in the identical colour. All five reflect 71% to 73% of the solar energy that reaches them, so the fabric keeps heat off the glass whichever colour is chosen. It publishes NRC 0.00 and carries RoHS lead free with antimicrobial testing to ASTM E2180. The 94.5-inch width is the planning constraint.

Tv = visible light transmitted, Ts = solar energy transmitted, Rs = solar energy reflected, As = solar energy absorbed, Rv = visible light reflected, in percent, as published by Mermet USA for the fabric on its own. SHGC int. and SHGC ext. = solar heat gain coefficient of the fabric mounted inside or outside residential double glazing, from the same spec sheets; UPF = Mermet's ultraviolet protection rating where it publishes one. We bring the sample books to the consultation.
Where Flocké works here
Flocké is what we bring to a hotel, a club or a condo common area whose specification lists a European fire standard, and to a media room where the flocked back and the weight give the shade a substantial, quiet hang. In a house on the water it is usually a wider blackout that wins on width alone, so we check the opening first and go to Sparta or Zora at 126 inches when the glass is wide.
Flocké is the narrow, heavy fiberglass blackout with the broadest fire listings; Sparta and Zora Twilight are 126 inches wide in polyester and acrylic, and Elba and Sofia Twilight are the halves of matched Daylight pairs.
Flocké: frequently asked
When would you choose Flocké over Sparta Twilight?
When the specification calls for DIN 4102-1 (B1) or NF P 92 507 (M1), or when the room wants the weight and the flocked back. Sparta Twilight is 126 inches against Flocké's 94.5, so on wide glass Sparta usually wins; on a specification sheet Flocké does.
What pairs with it by day?
Vizela, the fiberglass light-filtering weave, in the same five colour names and the same 94.5-inch width. The two are built to run together on a dual roller, one colour by day and by night.
How wide can a Mermet Flocké shade be?
Mermet publishes standard roll widths of 94.5" (240 cm) for Flocké, so a single shade can run to about 94.5 inches wide before a seam or a second shade is needed. A seam in a blackout shows as a line of light, so wider openings get two shades on one headrail programmed to move together. We confirm the exact limit for the chosen system when we measure.
Which shades can be made in Flocké?
Flocké is a roller shade fabric. We source it directly from Mermet, so the same weave goes on Lutron, Somfy, Crestron or Vertilux motors or a manual chain, cut and finished in our Fort Lauderdale workroom and installed by our own team from Miami to Palm Beach.
Can I see Flocké samples before ordering?
Yes. We keep the Mermet sample books in the Fort Lauderdale workroom (4539 Powerline Rd, by appointment) and the Miami Beach showroom (500 South Pointe Dr #150), and we bring the colours you shortlist to the in-home consultation so you can hold them against your glass in your own light.
