A solar screen with no vinyl in it
Almost every solar screen on the market is a vinyl-coated yarn. GreenScreen is Mermet's answer for a project that cannot use one: 25 colourways in 2 designs, both 100% polyester warp knits with no PVC in the composition, both Cradle to Cradle Certified Bronze with a published Declare Label, both GREENGUARD Gold and RoHS lead free, and both carrying the same fire listings as the fiberglass screens, NFPA 701 TM#1, California Title 19 and CAN/ULC-S109. They are woven 118 inches wide, and they are by some distance the lightest fabrics in the Mermet library.
GreenScreen Evolve is the 3% weave, 78% recycled content, in nine greys and neutrals from Storm through Shale and Haze to Cloud, at 8.85 oz per square yard. GreenScreen Revive is 89% recycled content at 1% and 5%, in eight colours from Onyx and Dusk through Suede and Mushroom to Sand, and at 5.01 to 5.87 oz per square yard it is the lightest screen here by a wide margin. Visible transmission runs 5% to 23% on Evolve and 2% to 33% on Revive, so the two cards cover a glare room and a view room.

GreenScreen Evolve
3% openness, nine colours, 118 inches, 100% polyester with 78% recycled content, 8.85 oz per square yard, UV blockage about 97%, NRC 0.20. Solar reflectance runs 41% in Storm to 69% in Cloud. This is the one we quote first, because 3% is the openness that suits most South Florida glass.
GreenScreen Revive
1% and 5% openness, eight colours, 118 inches, 89% recycled content, and the lightest cloth in the library at 5.01 to 5.87 oz per square yard. UV blockage is about 99% at 1% and 95% at 5%. Visible transmission spans 2% in Dusk to 33% at the open end of the card.
What PVC-free means here
No vinyl in the composition, unlike every fiberglass screen in this library. Mermet publishes Cradle to Cradle Certified Bronze and a Declare Label for both, which is the documentation a LEED or WELL submittal usually asks for, alongside GREENGUARD Gold for low chemical emissions and RoHS lead free.
Where the brief comes from
Schools, clinics, wellness spaces, corporate interiors with a materials standard, and homeowners who ask for PVC-free by name. In South Florida it also comes up in new construction chasing a green certification, where the shade fabric is one of the easier line items to answer.
What you trade and what you keep
A polyester knit is not a fiberglass weave. These fabrics are lighter, which shows on a very tall shade where the extra weight of a fiberglass screen helps it hang dead flat, and the colour cards are grey and neutral rather than the two-tone whites and charcoals of E Screen. What you keep is the openness range that matters, 1%, 3% and 5%, the same three fire listings as the fiberglass screens, a full set of published optical figures, and 118 inches of width, which covers most sliders in one piece.
For a whole house we usually run GreenScreen where the specification requires it and match the rest of the openings in colour rather than in fabric, since a grey knit and a grey fiberglass screen read alike from the street. Where the whole project has to be PVC-free, Evolve at 3% and Revive at 1% and 5% cover the exposures between them, and the light-filtering and blackout pages carry the polyester weaves for the bedrooms.

Are GreenScreen fabrics really PVC-free?
Yes. Mermet publishes both as 100% polyester, Evolve with 78% recycled content and Revive with 89%, with no vinyl in the composition. Both hold Cradle to Cradle Certified Bronze and a Declare Label. Every other screen in this library is a vinyl-coated fiberglass or reinforced-core weave.
How do they compare with a fiberglass screen on performance?
Closely, on the numbers that matter at the window. Evolve at 3% publishes solar reflectance of 41% to 69% across its card and UV blockage of about 97%, in the same territory as a 3% fiberglass screen. The differences are weight, hand and colour card rather than solar performance.
Which openness factors are available?
Evolve is woven at 3% only. Revive is woven at 1% and 5%. Between them they cover the three openness factors we specify most in South Florida, and both come 118 inches wide, so a wide slider is usually one shade.
Can GreenScreen be used on a commercial project?
Yes, and it is where most of it goes. Both carry NFPA 701 TM#1, California Title 19 and CAN/ULC-S109 flame listings, GREENGUARD Gold and RoHS lead free, and Mermet publishes the Cradle to Cradle and Declare documentation a submittal asks for. We include the certificates with the package for commercial projects.
