A PVC-free 3% screen woven from recycled polyester

GreenScreen Evolve is Mermet's answer for a project that cannot use vinyl. It is a warp knit in 100% polyester with 78% recycled content, woven 118 inches wide at 3% openness, and at 8.85 oz per square yard it is a fraction of the weight of a fiberglass screen. Mermet publishes Cradle to Cradle Certified Bronze and a Declare Label for it, alongside GREENGUARD Gold and RoHS lead free, and it keeps the fire listings of the fiberglass range: NFPA 701 TM#1, California Title 19 and CAN/ULC-S109. UV blockage is about 97%.

The card is nine greys and neutrals: Storm, Shadow, Rain, Wind, Shale, Haze, Natural, Light and Cloud. The spread of published figures is wide for a single openness. Cloud reflects 69% of the solar energy that reaches it and passes 23% of the visible light; Storm reflects 41% and absorbs 45% at 5% visible transmission, so the same card covers a bright north room and a hard exposure. Acoustically it publishes NRC 0.20. Where a whole project has to be PVC-free, this is the fabric that covers the living areas.

Tv = visible light transmitted, Ts = solar energy transmitted, Rs = solar energy reflected, As = solar energy absorbed, Rv = visible light reflected, in percent, as published by Mermet USA for the fabric on its own. SHGC int. and SHGC ext. = solar heat gain coefficient of the fabric mounted inside or outside residential double glazing, from the same spec sheets; UPF = Mermet's ultraviolet protection rating where it publishes one. South Florida

Where GreenScreen Evolve works here

Evolve goes into the South Florida projects that arrive with a materials brief: an architect chasing a certification, a clinic or a school, or a homeowner who reads labels. At 3% it lands where most of our ocean and Intracoastal glass wants to be anyway, so choosing it costs nothing in performance. We supply the Cradle to Cradle and Declare documentation with the quote and make the shades up on the same rollers and motors as any other fabric.

Evolve is the 3% GreenScreen in nine greys and neutrals; Revive is the lighter knit with 89% recycled content at 1% and 5%.

Good to Know

GreenScreen Evolve: frequently asked

Is GreenScreen Evolve really PVC-free?

Yes. Mermet publishes it as 100% polyester with 78% recycled content and no vinyl in the composition, Cradle to Cradle Certified Bronze with a Declare Label. Every fiberglass screen in this library is vinyl-coated by contrast, which is what the GreenScreen page exists to separate.

Only 3% openness?

Yes, Evolve is woven at 3% only. For 1% or 5% in a PVC-free fabric, GreenScreen Revive covers both, with 89% recycled content and the same certifications.

How wide can a Mermet GreenScreen Evolve shade be?

Mermet publishes standard roll widths of 118" (300 cm) for GreenScreen Evolve, so a single shade can run to about 118 inches wide before a seam or a second shade is needed. Wider openings are covered with two shades on one headrail programmed to move together, or with a seam placed where the mullion hides it. We confirm the exact limit for the chosen system when we measure.

Which shades can be made in GreenScreen Evolve?

GreenScreen Evolve is a roller shade fabric. We source it directly from Mermet, so the same weave goes on Lutron, Somfy, Crestron or Vertilux motors or a manual chain, cut and finished in our Fort Lauderdale workroom and installed by our own team from Miami to Palm Beach.

Is GreenScreen Evolve PVC-free?

Mermet's published composition for GreenScreen Evolve is 100% polyester / 78% recycled content: no vinyl and no PVC in the yarn or the coating, with RoHS lead free, GREENGUARD Gold, Cradle to Cradle Certified Bronze, Declare Label listed.

Can I see GreenScreen Evolve samples before ordering?

Yes. We keep the Mermet sample books in the Fort Lauderdale workroom (4539 Powerline Rd, by appointment) and the Miami Beach showroom (500 South Pointe Dr #150), and we bring the colours you shortlist to the in-home consultation so you can hold them against your glass in your own light.
