The rib weave, in the warmest neutral card Mermet makes

M Screen shares E Screen's 36% fiberglass and 64% vinyl construction but is woven as a 1x2 rib, which gives it a fine horizontal grain instead of a basketweave grid. It comes in 1%, 3% and 5%, at 98 and 122 inches wide, in thirteen colours: White/White, White/Pearl, White/Stone, White/Linen, Pearl/Pearl, Pearl/Linen, Linen/Stone, Linen/Sable-Cocoa, Charcoal/Grey, Charcoal/Sable, Charcoal/Apricot, Charcoal/Cocoa and Charcoal/Charcoal. The Stone, Linen and Sable combinations are the reason to look at it: they sit between the bright whites and the greys and flatter warm interiors that a pure white screen can make look cold.

The numbers hold up next to E Screen. White/White reflects 76% of the solar energy that reaches it, Charcoal/Charcoal absorbs 95%, and visible transmission across the card runs from 1% to 18%, with Linen/Stone the most open at 18%. UV blockage is about 99% at 1%, 97% at 3% and 95% at 5%. Acoustically the 1% weave reaches NRC 0.30, among the higher values in the library, which is worth knowing in a room of glass and stone. Fire listings are NFPA 701 TM#1, California Title 19 and CAN/ULC-S109.

Tv = visible light transmitted, Ts = solar energy transmitted, Rs = solar energy reflected, As = solar energy absorbed, Rv = visible light reflected, in percent, as published by Mermet USA for the fabric on its own. SHGC int. and SHGC ext. = solar heat gain coefficient of the fabric mounted inside or outside residential double glazing, from the same spec sheets; UPF = Mermet's ultraviolet protection rating where it publishes one. We bring the sample books to the consultation.

South Florida

Where M Screen works here

Coral Gables and Boca Raton interiors with travertine, wood ceilings and pale oak are where M Screen earns its place. Linen/Stone at 3% on a lanai wall gives a room the look of a woven textile from inside while behaving exactly like a technical screen. On a bright white contemporary condo, E Screen is usually the closer match; when a client tells us the white shades in the showroom feel clinical, M Screen is what we bring out next.

M Screen is the warm-neutral rib weave; E Screen is the wider, cooler basketweave card, and M Screen Deco takes the same rib into seven bicolour stone and earth tones at 3% and 5%.

Good to Know

M Screen: frequently asked

E Screen or M Screen?

The same fibre and coating and the same fire listings, different weave and different colour card. E Screen has five openness factors, a 0.5% weave and the KOOLBLACK charcoals; M Screen has three openness factors and the Stone, Linen and Sable tones that suit warm interiors. We usually bring both cards to the first appointment.

How wide can an M Screen shade be?

98 or 122 inches depending on the roll, which covers most openings in one piece. On a wider slider we make two shades on one shared headrail and align the gap at the mullion, or move the room to a fabric woven at 122 inches throughout.

How wide can a Mermet M Screen shade be?

Mermet publishes standard roll widths of 98" (250 cm), 122" (310 cm) for M Screen, so a single shade can run to about 122 inches wide before a seam or a second shade is needed. Wider openings are covered with two shades on one headrail programmed to move together, or with a seam placed where the mullion hides it. We confirm the exact limit for the chosen system when we measure.

Which shades can be made in M Screen?

M Screen is a roller shade fabric. We source it directly from Mermet, so the same weave goes on Lutron, Somfy, Crestron or Vertilux motors or a manual chain, cut and finished in our Fort Lauderdale workroom and installed by our own team from Miami to Palm Beach.

Can I see M Screen samples before ordering?

Yes. We keep the Mermet sample books in the Fort Lauderdale workroom (4539 Powerline Rd, by appointment) and the Miami Beach showroom (500 South Pointe Dr #150), and we bring the colours you shortlist to the in-home consultation so you can hold them against your glass in your own light.
