Seven decorative colours in the thickest fabric Phifer weaves

SunTex 90 Design is an exterior fabric at 10% openness in seven colours built for appearance rather than for a technical card: Coconut, Wheat, Rattan, Toast, Toffee, Walnut and Coral. The composition is 31% polyester and 69% vinyl on polyester, at 17.2 oz per square yard and 0.039 inches thick, which makes it the thickest and among the heaviest fabrics in the Phifer library. It is woven 96 inches wide, with UV blockage of about 90%.

Phifer publishes no per-colour optical figures for this style, which is worth knowing before it goes on a window where the heat numbers matter. What it does publish is the specification that governs an outdoor installation: a Microban antimicrobial additive, GREENGUARD Gold certification, RoHS and REACH compliance, the ANSI/WCMA A100.1 lead-content standard, California Technical Bulletin 117 and Class A ratings under NFPA 101 and IBC Section 803.1. At 10% openness it behaves as a view-keeping outdoor screen rather than a heat barrier.

South Florida

Where SunTex 90 Design works here

Porch panels, privacy screens between neighbouring terraces, and outdoor projects where the fabric is part of the architecture rather than a shade on a window. Coral and Rattan are unusual outdoors and suit a Miami or Delray courtyard where everything else is neutral. Where the brief is heat rather than appearance, we take SunTex 97 instead and accept the narrower colour range.

Good to Know

SunTex 90 Design: frequently asked

Why are there no light transmission figures?

Phifer does not publish per-colour Tv, Ts, Rs or As data for this style. For an opening where the solar numbers drive the decision we specify SunTex 95, 97 or 99, which are fully published, and keep 90 Design for screens and panels where appearance leads.

What makes it different from SunTex 90?

The colours and the hand. Both are 10% open and both are 31% polyester with 69% vinyl on polyester, but 90 Design is 17.2 oz and 0.039 inches thick against 16.5 oz and 0.035 inches, and it comes in seven decorative colours rather than six utility ones.

How wide can a Phifer SunTex 90 Design shade be?

Phifer publishes standard roll widths of 96" (243.8cm) for SunTex 90 Design, so a single shade can run to about 96 inches wide before a seam or a second shade is needed. Wider openings are covered with two shades on one headrail programmed to move together, or with a seam placed where the mullion hides it. We confirm the exact limit for the chosen system when we measure.

Which shades can be made in SunTex 90 Design?

SunTex 90 Design is a roller shade fabric. We source it directly from Phifer, so the same weave goes on Lutron, Somfy, Crestron or Vertilux motors or a manual chain, cut and finished in our Fort Lauderdale workroom and installed by our own team from Miami to Palm Beach.

Can I see SunTex 90 Design samples before ordering?

Yes. We keep the Phifer sample books in the Fort Lauderdale workroom (4539 Powerline Rd, by appointment) and the Miami Beach showroom (500 South Pointe Dr #150), and we bring the colours you shortlist to the in-home consultation so you can hold them against your glass in your own light.
