Phifer Fabric Library

Thirteen colours at 1% and 3%, with the best acoustic figure in the library

SheerWeave 4901 at 1% and 4903 at 3% are thin vinyl-coated polyester screens, 17% polyester and 83% vinyl on polyester, at 15.85 and 14.9 oz per square yard and 0.028 and 0.027 inches thick. Widths are 63 and 98 inches. Phifer publishes UV blockage of about 99% and 97% and acoustic values up to NRC 0.60, the highest figure Phifer publishes in this library and matched only by SheerWeave Basic, which is worth knowing about in a home office, a media room or any space with hard floors and a lot of glass.

Thirteen colours mix solids with two-tone weaves: Chalk, Chalk/Wheat, Chalk/Black, Whitesands, Birch, Soft Grey, Kettal Grey, Flaxen, Cobblestone, Tobacco, Pewter/Chalk, Slate and Ebony. Visible transmission is tight across the card at 1% to 10% and solar reflectance spans 5% in Ebony to 83% in Chalk, as high as any interior SheerWeave publishes. Chalk/Black is the interesting one: a pale face over a black back, 1% visible transmission and 22% reflectance, which is the combination for a clear view out with a dark facade. Microban, GREENGUARD Gold and a full fire set are listed.

Tv = visible light transmitted, Ts = solar energy transmitted, Rs = solar energy reflected, As = solar energy absorbed, in percent, as published by Phifer for the fabric on its own. SHGC single = solar heat gain coefficient of the fabric behind single 1/4 in clear glass (1/8 in where that is what Phifer publishes), SHGC insul. = behind 1 in insulating glass with a high-performance coating (1/2 in clear where published). Exterior SunTex and SunScreen figures are for the fabric installed outside the glass at a 30 degree profile angle. We bring the sample books to the consultation.

South Florida

Where SheerWeave 4901/4903 works here

On a Miami Beach or Sunny Isles condo with an association that wants a light facade, Chalk/Wheat or Pewter/Chalk at 3% does the diplomatic work. For a home office in Fort Lauderdale where the client complains about both the glare and the echo, this is the card we open first, because the 1% weave publishes the highest acoustic value Phifer lists. Width is the constraint at 98 inches; wide sliders go to a 126-inch card.

Good to Know

SheerWeave 4901/4903: frequently asked

Is this the fabric Lutron sells as SheerWeave 4900?

It is the same Phifer product family. We source it direct from Phifer, which means the full thirteen-colour card and both openness factors without a shade brand's edit; where a project is running a Lutron fabric order we can also specify it that way. See our Lutron SheerWeave 4900 page for that route.

Does the acoustic figure make a real difference?

It is one component of a room's acoustics, not a fix. NRC 0.60 on a full wall of shades takes a measurable amount of hard reflection out of a glassy room; it will not solve an echo caused by tile floors and bare walls. We will say which of those you have before we sell you shades for it.

How wide can a Phifer SheerWeave 4901/4903 shade be?

Phifer publishes standard roll widths of 63" and 98" (160 cm and 248.9 cm) for SheerWeave 4901/4903, so a single shade can run to about 98 inches wide before a seam or a second shade is needed. Wider openings are covered with two shades on one headrail programmed to move together, or with a seam placed where the mullion hides it. We confirm the exact limit for the chosen system when we measure.

Which shades can be made in SheerWeave 4901/4903?

SheerWeave 4901/4903 is made up as roller shades, roman shades and panel tracks. We source it directly from Phifer, so the same weave goes on Lutron, Somfy, Crestron or Vertilux motors or a manual chain, cut and finished in our Fort Lauderdale workroom and installed by our own team from Miami to Palm Beach.

Can I see SheerWeave 4901/4903 samples before ordering?

Yes. We keep the Phifer sample books in the Fort Lauderdale workroom (4539 Powerline Rd, by appointment) and the Miami Beach showroom (500 South Pointe Dr #150), and we bring the colours you shortlist to the in-home consultation so you can hold them against your glass in your own light.
