85% REPREVE recycled polyester, three openness factors, 118 inches

SheerWeave RE-USE is woven from 85% REPREVE recycled polyester with 15% virgin polyester, with no vinyl in the published composition. It comes at 1%, 3% and 5% openness in a single width of 118 inches, at 10.4 to 11.6 oz per square yard and about 0.022 to 0.026 inches thick, with UV blockage of 99%, 97% and 95%. Phifer lists GREENGUARD Gold, RoHS and REACH compliance and the ANSI/WCMA A100.1 lead-content standard, along with fire listings under NFPA 701 TM#1 and TM#2, California Title 19 and BFD IX-1.

The eight colours read like a classic screen card rather than a sustainability line: White, White/Linen, White/Pearl, Grey, Bronze, Black/Grey, Black/Bronze and Black. Visible transmission runs from 0% in Black and Black/Bronze up to 18% at the open end of the card, and solar reflectance from 3% in Black to 75% in White, which is one of the widest reflectance spans in the library. The two-tone Whites and Blacks give the same face-and-back logic as the fiberglass cards, so a room can take a pale interior face over a darker back. There is no Microban additive on this style; Phifer lists the ASTM G21 test method.

Tv = visible light transmitted, Ts = solar energy transmitted, Rs = solar energy reflected, As = solar energy absorbed, in percent, as published by Phifer for the fabric on its own. SHGC single = solar heat gain coefficient of the fabric behind single 1/4 in clear glass (1/8 in where that is what Phifer publishes), SHGC insul. = behind 1 in insulating glass with a high-performance coating (1/2 in clear where published). Exterior SunTex and SunScreen figures are for the fabric installed outside the glass at a 30 degree profile angle. We bring the sample books to the consultation.

South Florida

Where SheerWeave RE-USE works here

When a Miami or Fort Lauderdale project has a recycled-content line in the specification, this is the fabric that satisfies it without looking like a compromise. White/Linen at 3% on an Intracoastal wall behaves like any other pale screen, and at 118 inches most sliders still come out as one shade. The absence of a Microban additive is worth a sentence at the consultation if the room is a bathroom or sits directly on the water.

Good to Know

SheerWeave RE-USE: frequently asked

What is REPREVE?

The recycled polyester fiber Phifer names in the composition of this fabric: 85% of the yarn, with 15% virgin polyester. It is the only Phifer shade fabric in this library with a published recycled content figure.

How does it compare to SheerWeave 8000?

Both are vinyl-free polyester. 8000 is 3% only, lighter, Cradle to Cradle Certified Bronze and needs heat cutting; RE-USE gives three openness factors, a two-tone colour card and 118 inches. If the brief says recycled content, RE-USE; if it says certification, 8000.

How wide can a Phifer SheerWeave RE-USE shade be?

Phifer publishes standard roll widths of 118" (300 cm) for SheerWeave RE-USE, so a single shade can run to about 118 inches wide before a seam or a second shade is needed. Wider openings are covered with two shades on one headrail programmed to move together, or with a seam placed where the mullion hides it. We confirm the exact limit for the chosen system when we measure.

Which shades can be made in SheerWeave RE-USE?

SheerWeave RE-USE is a roller shade fabric. We source it directly from Phifer, so the same weave goes on Lutron, Somfy, Crestron or Vertilux motors or a manual chain, cut and finished in our Fort Lauderdale workroom and installed by our own team from Miami to Palm Beach.

Is SheerWeave RE-USE PVC-free?

Phifer's published composition for SheerWeave RE-USE is 85% REPREVE® Recycled Polyester, 15% Virgin Polyester: no vinyl and no PVC in the yarn or the coating, with GREENGUARD Gold, RoHS, REACH, ANSI/WCMA A100.1 lead content listed.

Can I see SheerWeave RE-USE samples before ordering?

Yes. We keep the Phifer sample books in the Fort Lauderdale workroom (4539 Powerline Rd, by appointment) and the Miami Beach showroom (500 South Pointe Dr #150), and we bring the colours you shortlist to the in-home consultation so you can hold them against your glass in your own light.
