A 14% textured weave in nine colours you would not expect on a screen

SheerWeave 3000 is a single style at 14% openness, more open than anything in the main screen cards and woven from a three-part blend: 67% vinyl, 17.5% fiberglass and 15.5% polyester. It is 96 inches wide, 13.46 oz per square yard and 0.028 inches thick, with UV blockage of about 86%. At that openness it is a view fabric rather than a glare fabric, and Phifer's figures confirm it: visible transmission of 14% to 22% across the card, which is roughly double what a 5% screen passes.

The colour card is the reason to look at it. Nine colours run well outside the usual grey and white territory: Custard Cream, Mushroom Sand, Sand Dollar, Honey Sage, Chocolate, Espresso, Pale Grey, Ninja Grey and Pearl White. Solar reflectance runs from 4% in Chocolate to 62% in Pearl White, and absorptance from 14% to 83%, so the warm dark colours take heat into the fabric while the pale ones send it back. Phifer lists a Microban additive, GREENGUARD Gold, and fire listings under NFPA 701 TM#1 and TM#2, NFPA 101 Class A and IBC Section 803.1.1 Class A.

Tv = visible light transmitted, Ts = solar energy transmitted, Rs = solar energy reflected, As = solar energy absorbed, in percent, as published by Phifer for the fabric on its own. SHGC single = solar heat gain coefficient of the fabric behind single 1/4 in clear glass (1/8 in where that is what Phifer publishes), SHGC insul. = behind 1 in insulating glass with a high-performance coating (1/2 in clear where published). Exterior SunTex and SunScreen figures are for the fabric installed outside the glass at a 30 degree profile angle. We bring the sample books to the consultation.

South Florida

Where SheerWeave 3000 works here

Fourteen percent is a north-window fabric here, or a shaded courtyard, or a room where the client wants the shade to read as a warm textile rather than a technical screen. We would not put it on west glass in Fort Lauderdale: at that openness the glare simply comes through. Honey Sage and Sand Dollar suit the wood and travertine interiors common in Coral Gables and Boca Raton better than any white screen does.

Good to Know

SheerWeave 3000: frequently asked

Is 14% too open for South Florida?

On west or south-west glass, yes. On a north window, a shaded elevation or a covered terrace it is exactly right, because the job there is softening the light rather than fighting it. If you like the colours but need more control, look at the 5% weaves in the 4500/4600 card, which carries a similar warm palette.

Does it come in a matching blackout?

Not in the same card. For a bedroom next to a room in SheerWeave 3000 we would pair it with one of the 7000 series blackouts in a neutral that sits with the colour, or with SheerWeave 7100 if a fiberglass blackout is preferred.

How wide can a Phifer SheerWeave 3000 shade be?

Phifer publishes standard roll widths of 96" (243.8 cm) for SheerWeave 3000, so a single shade can run to about 96 inches wide before a seam or a second shade is needed. Wider openings are covered with two shades on one headrail programmed to move together, or with a seam placed where the mullion hides it. We confirm the exact limit for the chosen system when we measure.

Which shades can be made in SheerWeave 3000?

SheerWeave 3000 is made up as roller shades, roman shades and panel tracks. We source it directly from Phifer, so the same weave goes on Lutron, Somfy, Crestron or Vertilux motors or a manual chain, cut and finished in our Fort Lauderdale workroom and installed by our own team from Miami to Palm Beach.

Can I see SheerWeave 3000 samples before ordering?

Yes. We keep the Phifer sample books in the Fort Lauderdale workroom (4539 Powerline Rd, by appointment) and the Miami Beach showroom (500 South Pointe Dr #150), and we bring the colours you shortlist to the in-home consultation so you can hold them against your glass in your own light.
