A thin, light polyester screen in ten warm and neutral colours
SheerWeave 4600 at 3% and 4500 at 5% are vinyl-coated polyester screens built thinner and lighter than the fiberglass cards: 22% polyester with 78% vinyl in the 3% and 17% with 83% in the 5%, at 17.4 and 14.4 oz per square yard and 0.030 and 0.024 inches thick. Both come 63, 98 and 126 inches wide. Phifer publishes UV blockage of about 97% and 95% and acoustic values of NRC 0.20 and 0.15, and lists a Microban antimicrobial additive, GREENGUARD Gold and a full fire set including California Title 19, NFPA 701 TM#1 and TM#2 and CAN/ULC-S 109.
Ten colours cover more decorative ground than a technical screen usually does: Chalk, Ecru, Linen, Golden Sand, Sandstone, Granite, Pewter, Cappuccino, Dark Bronze and Ebony. Visible transmission is tight across the whole card, 5% to 12%, so even the pale colours control glare properly, while solar reflectance swings from 3% in Ebony to 74% in Chalk. That combination, low light transmission with a wide reflectance range, is what makes this card easy to specify: the colour changes the heat behaviour without changing how much glare gets through.

Tv = visible light transmitted, Ts = solar energy transmitted, Rs = solar energy reflected, As = solar energy absorbed, in percent, as published by Phifer for the fabric on its own. SHGC single = solar heat gain coefficient of the fabric behind single 1/4 in clear glass (1/8 in where that is what Phifer publishes), SHGC insul. = behind 1 in insulating glass with a high-performance coating (1/2 in clear where published). Exterior SunTex and SunScreen figures are for the fabric installed outside the glass at a 30 degree profile angle. We bring the sample books to the consultation.
Where SheerWeave 4500/4600 works here
This is our answer when a client likes the warm neutrals of a decorator card but the window still faces the sun. Golden Sand or Sandstone at 3% on a Boca Raton or Coral Gables living room reads as a soft textile from inside and behaves like a proper screen against the glare. On the water we would still normally take a 2500 or 4000 Eco weave for the wider colour progression and the heavier hand.
SheerWeave 4500/4600: frequently asked
How is this different from the 4550/4650 twill?
Same family of vinyl-coated polyester yarns, different weave. The 4550 and 4650 styles are woven as a twill with a two-sided appearance in four colours at 63 and 98 inches; 4500 and 4600 are the plain weave in ten colours and go to 126 inches. If the width matters, this is the card.
Which colour gives the clearest view?
Ebony, at 5% visible transmission and only 3% solar reflectance: the dark yarn scatters the least light, so the view stays sharp. It also absorbs 94% of the solar energy that reaches it, so on hot glass we would pair it with an exterior shade or step to a lighter colour.
How wide can a Phifer SheerWeave 4500/4600 shade be?
Phifer publishes standard roll widths of 63", 98" and 126" (160.0 cm, 248.9 cm and 320.0 cm) for SheerWeave 4500/4600, so a single shade can run to about 126 inches wide before a seam or a second shade is needed. Wider openings are covered with two shades on one headrail programmed to move together, or with a seam placed where the mullion hides it. We confirm the exact limit for the chosen system when we measure.
Which shades can be made in SheerWeave 4500/4600?
SheerWeave 4500/4600 is made up as roller shades, roman shades and panel tracks. We source it directly from Phifer, so the same weave goes on Lutron, Somfy, Crestron or Vertilux motors or a manual chain, cut and finished in our Fort Lauderdale workroom and installed by our own team from Miami to Palm Beach.
Can I see SheerWeave 4500/4600 samples before ordering?
Yes. We keep the Phifer sample books in the Fort Lauderdale workroom (4539 Powerline Rd, by appointment) and the Miami Beach showroom (500 South Pointe Dr #150), and we bring the colours you shortlist to the in-home consultation so you can hold them against your glass in your own light.
