A 1% screen in twelve solid colours, thick and near-opaque

SheerWeave 4800 is a single style at 1% openness and the thickest interior screen Phifer publishes: 0.036 inches, 18.5 oz per square yard, 24% polyester and 76% vinyl on polyester, with UV blockage of about 99%. It is woven 63, 98 and 126 inches wide, carries a Microban antimicrobial additive and GREENGUARD Gold, and is listed to California Title 19, NFPA 701 TM#1 and TM#2, NFPA 101 Class A, IBC Section 803.1.1 Class A, BS 5867 Part 2 Type B and CAN/ULC-S 109. Its acoustic value, NRC 0.30, is high for a solar screen.

The card is twelve solid colours rather than two-tone weaves: Chalk, Alabaster, Pearl, Sand, Mocha, Taupe, Fleece, Clay, Grey, Mink, Flint and Ebony. Visible transmission runs from 0% in Flint, Mink, Clay, Ebony and Taupe up to 6% in Chalk, which is as close to a light-filtering fabric as a screen gets while still holding an openness factor. Solar reflectance runs from 3% in Ebony to 77% in Chalk. At those numbers this is a glare fabric first and a view fabric second, and the darkest colours give only a faint trace of what is outside.

Tv = visible light transmitted, Ts = solar energy transmitted, Rs = solar energy reflected, As = solar energy absorbed, in percent, as published by Phifer for the fabric on its own. SHGC single = solar heat gain coefficient of the fabric behind single 1/4 in clear glass (1/8 in where that is what Phifer publishes), SHGC insul. = behind 1 in insulating glass with a high-performance coating (1/2 in clear where published). Exterior SunTex and SunScreen figures are for the fabric installed outside the glass at a 30 degree profile angle. We bring the sample books to the consultation.

South Florida

Where SheerWeave 4800 works here

West-facing home offices, media rooms with a window, and any room where a monitor faces the glass. This is also the screen we reach for when a client on a busy Fort Lauderdale street wants more daytime privacy than a normal 1% weave gives: at 0% visible transmission in the dark colours there is very little to see in from outside while the room still gets daylight.

Good to Know

SheerWeave 4800: frequently asked

Is 1% openness too dark for a living room?

Not in South Florida, and not in a light colour. Chalk or Alabaster at 1% keeps the room bright and simply removes the glare; the view softens rather than disappears. In Flint or Ebony it becomes close to a light-filtering shade with a trace of the outside, which is the point in a media room.

Does it give privacy?

By day, more than most screens: several colours publish 0% visible transmission, so there is very little to see in from outside. At night, with the lights on, it silhouettes like any screen. For real night privacy pair it with a blackout on a dual roller.

How wide can a Phifer SheerWeave 4800 shade be?

Phifer publishes standard roll widths of 63", 98" and 126" (160.0 cm, 248.9 cm and 320.0 cm) for SheerWeave 4800, so a single shade can run to about 126 inches wide before a seam or a second shade is needed. Wider openings are covered with two shades on one headrail programmed to move together, or with a seam placed where the mullion hides it. We confirm the exact limit for the chosen system when we measure.

Which shades can be made in SheerWeave 4800?

SheerWeave 4800 is made up as roller shades, roman shades and panel tracks. We source it directly from Phifer, so the same weave goes on Lutron, Somfy, Crestron or Vertilux motors or a manual chain, cut and finished in our Fort Lauderdale workroom and installed by our own team from Miami to Palm Beach.

Can I see SheerWeave 4800 samples before ordering?

Yes. We keep the Phifer sample books in the Fort Lauderdale workroom (4539 Powerline Rd, by appointment) and the Miami Beach showroom (500 South Pointe Dr #150), and we bring the colours you shortlist to the in-home consultation so you can hold them against your glass in your own light.
