Phifer SheerWeave 8000 Fabric
7 colourways, openness 3%, solar screen, up to 118 inches wide. Every swatch and every published specification, from the workroom that cuts Phifer in Fort Lauderdale and installs it from Miami to Palm Beach.
100% polyester at 3%, Cradle to Cradle certified, 118 inches wide
SheerWeave 8000 is Phifer's polyester screen with no vinyl in the published composition: 100% polyester, 3% openness, 118 inches wide, and at 7.35 oz per square yard and 0.019 inches thick it is the lightest solar screen in the library by a wide margin. It is Cradle to Cradle Certified Bronze and GREENGUARD Gold certified, with UV blockage of about 97% and an acoustic value of NRC 0.20. The fire listing is one of the broadest Phifer publishes: California Title 19, NFPA 701 TM#1 and TM#2, NFPA 101 Class A, IBC Section 803.1.1 Class A, BFD IX-1, BS 5867 Part 2 Type B, CAN/ULC-S 109 and CAN/CGSB2-4.162-M80.
Seven colours run from Snow through Eggshell, Ecru and Silver to Smoke, Seal and Kohl. Because the yarn is polyester rather than vinyl-coated fiberglass, the light behaves differently: Snow publishes 36% visible transmission at 3% openness, where a vinyl screen at the same openness would pass a fraction of that. The dark end is tighter, with Kohl at 7%. Solar reflectance runs 26% to 54%. Two fabrication notes matter: Phifer asks for ultrasonic or other heat-generated cutting, and does not recommend railroading the fabric.

Tv = visible light transmitted, Ts = solar energy transmitted, Rs = solar energy reflected, As = solar energy absorbed, in percent, as published by Phifer for the fabric on its own. SHGC single = solar heat gain coefficient of the fabric behind single 1/4 in clear glass (1/8 in where that is what Phifer publishes), SHGC insul. = behind 1 in insulating glass with a high-performance coating (1/2 in clear where published). Exterior SunTex and SunScreen figures are for the fabric installed outside the glass at a 30 degree profile angle. We bring the sample books to the consultation.
Where SheerWeave 8000 works here
This is the screen for a project with a materials brief: a LEED or WELL-minded build in Miami, a clinical or wellness space, or a client who asks for no vinyl by name. The pale colours are bright rather than dim, so it suits a room where daylight is wanted more than glare control. On hard west glass in a hot condo we would pair it with an exterior shade or choose a tighter vinyl weave instead.
SheerWeave 8000: frequently asked
Is SheerWeave 8000 PVC-free?
Its published composition is 100% polyester, so there is no vinyl in it. Phifer reserves the explicit PVC-Free label for Style 7001, but 8000 is Cradle to Cradle Certified Bronze and is the fabric we put forward first on a no-vinyl brief. See the full list on our PVC-free and recycled page.
Why is Snow so bright at 3% openness?
Polyester yarn passes light in a way vinyl-coated fiberglass does not, so the 36% visible transmission Phifer publishes for Snow comes largely through the yarn rather than through the weave. It makes for a luminous, bright shade; if glare is the complaint, choose Smoke, Seal or Kohl instead.
Any fabrication limits?
Two. Phifer asks that it be cut with ultrasonic or other heat-generated methods, which our workroom is set up for, and does not recommend railroading it. That makes 118 inches the single-shade limit.
How wide can a Phifer SheerWeave 8000 shade be?
Phifer publishes standard roll widths of 118" (300.0 cm) for SheerWeave 8000, so a single shade can run to about 118 inches wide before a seam or a second shade is needed. Wider openings are covered with two shades on one headrail programmed to move together, or with a seam placed where the mullion hides it. We confirm the exact limit for the chosen system when we measure.
Which shades can be made in SheerWeave 8000?
SheerWeave 8000 is made up as roller shades and panel tracks. We source it directly from Phifer, so the same weave goes on Lutron, Somfy, Crestron or Vertilux motors or a manual chain, cut and finished in our Fort Lauderdale workroom and installed by our own team from Miami to Palm Beach.
Is SheerWeave 8000 PVC-free?
Phifer's published composition for SheerWeave 8000 is 100% Polyester: no vinyl and no PVC in the yarn or the coating, with GREENGUARD Gold, Cradle to Cradle Certified Bronze, RoHS, REACH, ANSI/WCMA A100.1 lead content listed.
