Phifer Fabric Library

Five colours, three openness factors, 126 inches, no extras

SheerWeave Basic is the economical fiberglass screen: 38% fiberglass and 62% vinyl on fiberglass at 1%, 3% and 5% openness, woven in one width only, 126 inches. Weights run 17.2, 16.4 and 14.1 oz per square yard and UV blockage 99%, 97% and 95%. The card is five colours: White, White/Bone, White/Platinum, Charcoal/Gray and Charcoal. Phifer publishes acoustic values up to NRC 0.60 across the three weaves, which is the top of the range for the whole library.

The specification is not stripped back where it counts. Basic carries the same Microban antimicrobial additive as the main SheerWeave cards, GREENGUARD Gold certification, RoHS and REACH compliance, the ANSI/WCMA A100.1 lead-content standard and a full fire set: California Title 19, NFPA 701 TM#1 and TM#2, NFPA 101 Class A, IBC Section 803.1.1 Class A, BS 5867 Part 2 Type B, CAN/ULC-S 109 and CAN/CGSB2-4.162-M80. Visible transmission runs 1% to 17% and solar reflectance 4% to 71%. What you give up against the bigger cards is colour choice, not performance.

Tv = visible light transmitted, Ts = solar energy transmitted, Rs = solar energy reflected, As = solar energy absorbed, in percent, as published by Phifer for the fabric on its own. SHGC single = solar heat gain coefficient of the fabric behind single 1/4 in clear glass (1/8 in where that is what Phifer publishes), SHGC insul. = behind 1 in insulating glass with a high-performance coating (1/2 in clear where published). Exterior SunTex and SunScreen figures are for the fabric installed outside the glass at a 30 degree profile angle. We bring the sample books to the consultation.

South Florida

Where SheerWeave Basic works here

A whole apartment, a rental, a guest house, or the back half of a large house where the budget is finite and the front rooms are taking a designer fabric. White at 3% and Charcoal at 1% cover most of what a South Florida condo needs, and at 126 inches wide the wide sliders still come out as single shades, which is where the savings usually disappear on a cheaper fabric.

Good to Know

SheerWeave Basic: frequently asked

What is actually different about Basic?

The colour card, and that is close to it. Five colours instead of eleven or thirteen, one roll width, three openness factors. The composition, the Microban additive, the certifications and the fire listings match the main fiberglass cards, and at 126 inches it is one of the widest fabrics Phifer weaves.

Which colour and openness for a condo?

White or White/Bone at 3% on the water side, Charcoal at 1% on a west wall, and the same White at 5% under a terrace. Because there are only five colours the decision is quick, which is part of the appeal on a whole-unit job.

How wide can a Phifer SheerWeave Basic shade be?

Phifer publishes standard roll widths of 126" (320 cm) for SheerWeave Basic, so a single shade can run to about 126 inches wide before a seam or a second shade is needed. Wider openings are covered with two shades on one headrail programmed to move together, or with a seam placed where the mullion hides it. We confirm the exact limit for the chosen system when we measure.

Which shades can be made in SheerWeave Basic?

SheerWeave Basic is made up as roller shades, roman shades and panel tracks. We source it directly from Phifer, so the same weave goes on Lutron, Somfy, Crestron or Vertilux motors or a manual chain, cut and finished in our Fort Lauderdale workroom and installed by our own team from Miami to Palm Beach.

Can I see SheerWeave Basic samples before ordering?

Yes. We keep the Phifer sample books in the Fort Lauderdale workroom (4539 Powerline Rd, by appointment) and the Miami Beach showroom (500 South Pointe Dr #150), and we bring the colours you shortlist to the in-home consultation so you can hold them against your glass in your own light.
