Phifer Fabric Library

The heaviest screen in the range, with a bio-based plasticizer

SheerWeave 4000 Eco is four styles on one nine-colour card: Style 4001 at 1%, 4400 at 3%, 4000 at 5% and 4100 at 10%. The composition is 25% polyester and 75% vinyl on polyester, made with DOW ECOLIBRIUM bio-based plasticizer, and Phifer publishes that over half of the compound comes from crop-based feed stocks and minerals and over two thirds from non fossil fuel based materials. At 21.3 oz per square yard in the tightest weave it is the heaviest fabric in the interior library, and it hangs and rolls dead flat because of it. Widths run to 126 inches.

The colours all carry an Eco prefix and step evenly from light to dark: Eco/Chalk, Eco/Alabaster, Eco/Pebblestone, Eco/Greystone, Eco/Granite, Eco/Pewter, Eco/Ash, Eco/Ebony and Eco/Tobacco. Visible transmission runs 1% to 14% and solar reflectance 4% to 83%, and that 83% in Eco/Chalk is as high as any interior SheerWeave publishes. UV blockage is 99%, 97%, 95% and 90% across the four openness factors, acoustic values reach NRC 0.55, and the fabric carries a Microban additive, GREENGUARD Gold and the full fire set including NFPA 701 TM#1 and TM#2.

Tv = visible light transmitted, Ts = solar energy transmitted, Rs = solar energy reflected, As = solar energy absorbed, in percent, as published by Phifer for the fabric on its own. SHGC single = solar heat gain coefficient of the fabric behind single 1/4 in clear glass (1/8 in where that is what Phifer publishes), SHGC insul. = behind 1 in insulating glass with a high-performance coating (1/2 in clear where published). Exterior SunTex and SunScreen figures are for the fabric installed outside the glass at a 30 degree profile angle. We bring the sample books to the consultation.

South Florida

Where SheerWeave 4000 Eco (4000/4001/4100/4400) works here

At an oceanfront residence on Bay Drive in Pompano Beach, five Somfy Sonesse 30 Zigbee rollers run in one unbroken line across the beach-facing glass in 4000 Eco 5%, colour Eco/Alabaster. That is the case this fabric makes: five wide shades that all hang identically, a pale weave that reflects most of the sun back at the beach, and the horizon still reading through it. On harder west glass we take the same colour at 1% in Style 4001.

SheerWeave Privacy is the same Eco colour card and the same plasticizer at 0.1% openness, for rooms where the view is not the point.

Good to Know

SheerWeave 4000 Eco (4000/4001/4100/4400): frequently asked

Is 4000 Eco PVC-free?

No. It is vinyl on polyester, but made with DOW ECOLIBRIUM bio-based plasticizer, with over half the compound derived from crop-based feed stocks and minerals. If the brief is no vinyl at all rather than a lower-impact vinyl, see SheerWeave 8000, Infinity2 or RE-USE on our PVC-free page.

Why choose it over the fiberglass screens?

Weight and hang. At up to 21.3 oz per square yard it is substantially heavier than the fiberglass cards, which shows on a tall shade and on a wide one: it rolls straight and hangs without waving. The Eco colour card is also the most even light-to-dark progression Phifer publishes, which matters when one house runs several colours.

Can it pair with a blackout in the same colour?

Not in the same card, but SheerWeave Privacy uses the identical Eco colour codes at 0.1% openness for rooms that need near-total privacy with daylight, and any of the 7000 series blackouts will sit alongside in a neutral. On a dual roller we usually run the Eco screen in front and a 7200R or 7500R blackout behind.

How wide can a Phifer SheerWeave 4000 Eco (4000/4001/4100/4400) shade be?

Phifer publishes standard roll widths of 63", 98" and 126" (160 cm, 248.9 cm and 320 cm); 63", 84", 98" and 126" (160 cm, 213.4 cm, 248.9 cm and 320 cm); 63", 84" and 98" (160 cm, 213.4 cm and 248.9 cm) for SheerWeave 4000 Eco (4000/4001/4100/4400), so a single shade can run to about 126 inches wide before a seam or a second shade is needed. Wider openings are covered with two shades on one headrail programmed to move together, or with a seam placed where the mullion hides it. We confirm the exact limit for the chosen system when we measure.

Which shades can be made in SheerWeave 4000 Eco (4000/4001/4100/4400)?

SheerWeave 4000 Eco (4000/4001/4100/4400) is made up as roller shades, roman shades and panel tracks. We source it directly from Phifer, so the same weave goes on Lutron, Somfy, Crestron or Vertilux motors or a manual chain, cut and finished in our Fort Lauderdale workroom and installed by our own team from Miami to Palm Beach.

Can I see SheerWeave 4000 Eco (4000/4001/4100/4400) samples before ordering?

Yes. We keep the Phifer sample books in the Fort Lauderdale workroom (4539 Powerline Rd, by appointment) and the Miami Beach showroom (500 South Pointe Dr #150), and we bring the colours you shortlist to the in-home consultation so you can hold them against your glass in your own light.
