A gingham and tattersall at 59 in, in 14 colourways

Beau is a gingham and tattersall from Holland & Sherry, in their Dandy Collection (100% wool, 59 in wide, made in Chile). It comes in 14 colourways, Navy / Grey, Aqua / White, Camel / Cream, Teal / Grey, Rust / Oxford, Coral / Grey, Oxford / Grey, Charcoal / Grey and 6 more. Their spec sheet gives its end use as "Upholstery, drapery, accessories, soft goods and wall upholstery".

At 59 in it is cut up the roll like a conventional drapery cloth: a wide panel is made of joined widths, with each seam hidden inside a pleat or a ripplefold wave. Holland & Sherry give the repeat as 2.45 in across, 2.45 in down; we match it across every seam and from window to window, which adds yardage and is figured into the order.

Wool is naturally flame resistant but not sun resistant: it fades and weakens in direct sun, so it is lined, and on unshaded south or west glass it wants a solar shade in front of it. It can stretch a little over time in humid air, and like silk it is a protein fibre that wants an air-conditioned room rather than a house closed up for the summer (what each fibre does). It weighs 13 oz per linear yard (417 g per linear metre) by Holland & Sherry's figures.

Their drapery note advises hanging the drapery before it is hemmed, so the cloth settles to the room, and lining every drapery, to block the light and protect the face.

Best Use & Limits

What Beau does at the window, and what it does not

Best use

We would make Beau up as tailored panels, pinch pleat or ripplefold, lined, for a bedroom, a study or a living room that wants the warmth of a suiting cloth.

Light and privacy

Closed, Beau gives full privacy; how much light comes through is decided by the lining we sew behind it: light-filtering for living rooms, interlining for body and quiet, blackout for bedrooms (the lining guide).

Cloth and care

100% wool; 13 oz per linear yard (417 g per linear metre); Martindale 18,000 rubs. Care, by Holland & Sherry's sheet: professional dry clean only, cleaning code S. Holland & Sherry list it as PFAS free.

Limitations

Not for unshaded south or west glass on its own: the sun fades natural fibres, so a shade goes in front of it there. At 59 in a wide panel is made of joined widths, and the repeat is matched at every seam, which costs yardage. No NFPA 701 result in Holland & Sherry's data, so a condo common area or a commercial job that asks for it needs the cloth flame treated with a certificate, if Holland & Sherry can supply it that way, or another cloth. Holland & Sherry flag 1 of the colourways as limited stock.

Working With Holland & Sherry

How Beau becomes draperies in your home

Your designer specifies

Holland & Sherry sell to the trade, so the cloth is chosen and ordered by your designer, with the colour code and the sample in hand. Not working with a designer? Tell us; we can suggest a cloth we order ourselves.

We measure and give the yardage

We measure the windows, settle the style, the fullness and the lining, and work out the yardage on the width and the repeat, so the order to Holland & Sherry is right the first time.

We make and install

The cloth comes to our Fort Lauderdale workroom, where our five in-house seamstresses cut and sew the draperies, and our own installers hang them on the rod, track or motorized system the window calls for.

Where Beau works here

We have made Holland & Sherry wool up before: at the Ritz-Carlton Residences Miami Beach the designer's schedule called for two Holland & Sherry wool jacquards, made up as blackout drapery on Lutron Sivoia QS tracks, the reversible flannel hung with its lighter face outward as specified. Beau would be made the same way: lined, for an air-conditioned room, with a shade in front of it on bright glass.

For the same use, compare Beau with Brummell (gingham and tattersall, 59 in, 10 colourways), Wilde (wool check, 59 in, 14 colourways) and Baudelaire (wool check, 59 in, 12 colourways).

Good to Know

Beau: frequently asked

How many colours does Holland & Sherry Beau come in?

14 colourways on Holland & Sherry's site when we read it on October 7, 2026: Navy / Grey, Aqua / White, Camel / Cream, Teal / Grey, Rust / Oxford, Coral / Grey, Oxford / Grey, Charcoal / Grey, Gold / Grey, Green / Charcoal and 4 more. Every one is listed on this page with its code; Holland & Sherry's photographs of each are on their own site, linked from the table.

Can I buy Beau from you?

No. Holland & Sherry sell to the trade, so your designer orders the cloth from them. We make it up and install it: we measure and work out the yardage, the cloth is sent to our Fort Lauderdale workroom, and our seamstresses cut and sew the draperies.

Does Beau need a lining?

Holland & Sherry say every drapery should be lined, to block the light and protect the face, and we agree. The lining is chosen for the room: a light-filtering sateen for a living room, an interlining for body and quiet, a blackout lining for a bedroom (lining guide).

Is Beau fire rated for drapery?

Holland & Sherry's data gives no NFPA 701 result for it, only upholstery tests (BS 5852 Cigarette & Match; BS 5852 Crib 5; Cal 117-2013). For a residence that is not an issue; where a building asks for NFPA 701 on the drapery, ask your designer whether Holland & Sherry can supply it flame treated with a certificate, or choose another cloth.

What does Beau cost made up as draperies?

The cloth is bought through your designer at Holland & Sherry's price, so our quote covers what we make and install: the fabrication, the lining, the track or rod and the installation, worked out from the measure. Ask for a workroom price with the button above and we come back with a figure, not a range.
