Brummell is one of the Holland & Sherry cloths we make up as draperies: a gingham and tattersall in their Dandy Collection (100% wool, 59 in wide, made in Chile). It comes in 10 colourways, Cravat, Linen, Oriel, Derby Brown, Oxford Blue, Sporting Blue, Eton, Brighton and 2 more. Their spec sheet gives its end use as "Upholstery, drapery, soft goods, accessories, and wall upholstery".
The 59 in width runs up the roll, so panels are made of joined widths and the seams fall inside the pleats. Holland & Sherry give the repeat as 4.52 in across, 4.56 in down; we match it across every seam and from window to window, which adds yardage and is figured into the order.
Wool brings weight, a soft hand and quiet, and it resists flame on its own; what it does not resist is the sun, which fades and weakens it, so it wants a lining and, on bright south and west glass, a shade in front of it. In a lived-in, air-conditioned house it is at home; in a house shut up for the summer, humidity is its risk (curtain fabric types). It weighs 13.4 oz per linear yard (417 g per linear metre) by Holland & Sherry's figures.

What Brummell does at the window, and what it does not
Best use
We would make Brummell up as tailored panels, pinch pleat or ripplefold, lined, for a bedroom, a study or a living room that wants the warmth of a suiting cloth.
Light and privacy
An opaque cloth, so privacy is complete when it is closed. The lining sets the light: a light-filtering sateen keeps a room glowing, an interlining adds body and quiet, a blackout lining turns a bedroom dark (lining guide).
Cloth and care
100% wool; 13.4 oz per linear yard (417 g per linear metre); Martindale 20,000 rubs. Care, by Holland & Sherry's sheet: professional dry clean only, cleaning code S. Holland & Sherry list it as PFAS free.
Limitations
Not for unshaded south or west glass on its own: the sun fades natural fibres, so a shade goes in front of it there. At 59 in a wide panel is made of joined widths, and the repeat is matched at every seam, which costs yardage. No NFPA 701 result in Holland & Sherry's data, so a condo common area or a commercial job that asks for it needs the cloth flame treated with a certificate, if Holland & Sherry can supply it that way, or another cloth.

Holland & Sherry sell to the trade, so the cloth is chosen and ordered by your designer, with the colour code and the sample in hand. Not working with a designer? Tell us; we can suggest a cloth we order ourselves.
We measure and give the yardage
We measure the windows, settle the style, the fullness and the lining, and work out the yardage on the width and the repeat, so the order to Holland & Sherry is right the first time.
We make and install
The cloth comes to our Fort Lauderdale workroom, where our five in-house seamstresses cut and sew the draperies, and our own installers hang them on the rod, track or motorized system the window calls for.
Where Brummell works here
We have made Holland & Sherry wool up before: at the Ritz-Carlton Residences Miami Beach the designer's schedule called for two Holland & Sherry wool jacquards, made up as blackout drapery on Lutron Sivoia QS tracks, the reversible flannel hung with its lighter face outward as specified. Brummell would be made the same way: lined, for an air-conditioned room, with a shade in front of it on bright glass.

Is Brummell fire rated for drapery?
Holland & Sherry's data gives no NFPA 701 result for it, only upholstery tests (BS 5852 Cigarette & Match; BS 5852 Crib 5; Cal 117-2013). For a residence that is not an issue; where a building asks for NFPA 701 on the drapery, ask your designer whether Holland & Sherry can supply it flame treated with a certificate, or choose another cloth.
