The Holland & Sherry cloths their sheets give for drapery
This page is every opaque Holland & Sherry cloth whose drapery use they state themselves: 814 colourways in 76 patterns. Most are wool, from the 13 ounce mélange flannels and sateens of Andes and Patagonia, in sixty-odd colours each, to the heavy tweeds, checks and plaids of the Savile Row, Sporting and Highland Fling collections. Alongside them sit the Moray cashmeres Holland & Sherry make with Johnstons of Elgin, the linen weaves, Silk Matka in silk and Spectator in silk and wool, three velvets, and the Higgins Giles & Co outdoor cloths for a loggia or a cabana.
Every one is 48 to 61 inches wide, so a drapery panel joins widths with the seams inside the pleats, and the repeat, where there is one, is matched at every seam. Every pattern opens to its own page with all of its colourways, Holland & Sherry's figures, their end-use line and drapery note, and a link to their photographs. Your designer orders the cloth; we measure, give the yardage, and cut, sew and install it.

How to choose a Holland & Sherry drapery cloth
Weight first
A 13 ounce flannel and a 28 ounce check make different draperies: the first falls in soft, close folds, the second stands in tailored columns and needs a track or rod sized for it. The weight is on every pattern page, per linear yard and per linear metre, as Holland & Sherry give it.
Fibre and the sun
Wool, cashmere and silk fade and weaken in direct sun, and silk most of all, so they are lined, and on unshaded south or west glass they hang behind a solar shade. Linen moves with the humidity and is lined for the UV. The outdoor cloths are made for the weather. See curtain fabric types.
Pattern and the repeat
A plain flannel has no repeat; a check, a plaid or a windowpane does, and it is matched at every seam and across every window in the room, which adds yardage. The repeat across and down is on every pattern page, and the yardage we give your designer is worked out on it.
Lining and the room
Holland & Sherry's own note is to line every drapery. Which lining is the room's decision: a light-filtering sateen in a living room, an interlining for body and quiet in a study or a dining room, a blackout lining in a bedroom. The lining guide explains each one.
What a wool drapery does at the window, and what it does not
Wool drapes with weight and quiets a room, and it resists flame on its own: it needs far more heat to ignite than cotton, does not melt or drip and puts itself out when the flame is removed. Closed, a lined wool drapery gives complete privacy, and with a blackout lining a bedroom goes dark. That is why a suiting cloth turns up in studies, libraries, dining rooms and bedrooms, and why the weight of a flannel or a tweed reads as tailored rather than decorative.
What wool does not do is take the sun. Prolonged direct sun fades it and weakens it, so on bright south and west glass a wool drapery hangs behind a solar shade, and the lining carries the light. It can stretch a little over time in humid air, which is one reason Holland & Sherry advise hanging the drapery before the hem is set, and like silk it is a protein fibre that wants an air-conditioned house rather than one shut up for the summer.
None of the cloths on this page is a wide-width cloth, so none is railroaded and none runs seamless across a wall of glass; on a wide window the panel is made of joined widths, the seams hidden in the pleats. For a seamless wall, the sheers are on the sheer page, and for a drapery cloth wider than the roll there are the 118 inch goods in the Alendel drapery library, which we order ourselves.

Holland & Sherry drapery on our installations
At the Ritz-Carlton Residences Miami Beach the designer's schedule called for two Holland & Sherry wool jacquards, Spencer and Fitzroy, as the blackout drapery in the children's bedrooms, made up on Lutron Sivoia QS tracks, the reversible Spencer flannel hung with its lighter face outward as specified. Every cloth on this page is made up the same way: lined to the room, ripplefold, pinch pleat or Euro pleat, on a decorative rod, a hand-drawn track or a Lutron or Somfy motorized track, the way our published projects show the construction with other houses' cloth, from the ripplefold drapery under a custom valance in a Boca Raton golf course home to the double-sided velvet in a Southwest Ranches theatre.

Holland & Sherry drapery fabrics: frequently asked
Can I buy Holland & Sherry drapery fabric from you?
No. Holland & Sherry sell to the trade, so your designer orders the cloth. We measure, give the yardage, and make and install the draperies in our own Fort Lauderdale workroom.
Which Holland & Sherry cloths can be made into draperies?
The 76 on this page are the opaque cloths Holland & Sherry themselves list for drapery, on a spec sheet or a product page. Many of their other cloths are listed for upholstery only or carry no stated use; for one of those, your designer can ask Holland & Sherry, and we will tell you how it would hang.
Do Holland & Sherry wool draperies need a lining?
Yes. Holland & Sherry's own drapery note says every drapery should be lined, to block the light and protect the face, and we follow it. The lining is chosen for the room: light-filtering, interlined or blackout.
Will a Holland & Sherry drapery need seams?
On most windows, yes: every cloth on this page is 48 to 61 inches wide, so a panel wider than one width is made of joined widths with the seams hidden inside the pleats, and a check or plaid is matched at each seam.
Can a Holland & Sherry drapery be motorized?
Yes, on Lutron or Somfy tracks, from a remote, an app or the home's control system, as at the Ritz-Carlton Residences Miami Beach on Lutron Sivoia QS. The track is chosen for the weight of the cloth; a heavy tweed with a blackout lining needs a stronger one than a light flannel. See motorized drapes.
How is a Holland & Sherry wool drapery cleaned?
By the cloth's sheet, which for most of the wools says professional dry clean only. Between cleanings their care note is to brush gently or vacuum with an upholstery attachment; more in cleaning shades and drapery.
