A linen wool texture at 58 in, in 5 colourways

Holland & Sherry make Mariposa as a linen wool texture, in their Linen Weaves collection (78% linen, 21% wool, 1% polyester, 58 in wide, made in Chile). The range runs to 5 colourways: Bass Brown, Golden, Copper Rose, Vineyard and Spring Green. Their spec sheet gives its end use as "Upholstery, drapery, wall upholstery, soft goods, and accessories". It is new in their Fall 2026 collection.

At 58 in it is cut up the roll like a conventional drapery cloth: a wide panel is made of joined widths, with each seam hidden inside a pleat or a ripplefold wave. Holland & Sherry's sheet gives the direction as up the roll.

Linen reads matte and relaxed, and it moves with the humidity; like every natural fibre it wants a lining that takes the sun instead of the face cloth. At 34 oz per linear yard (1150 g per linear metre) it is a heavy cloth, so the track or rod is sized for the weight.

Their drapery note advises hanging the drapery before it is hemmed, so the cloth settles to the room, and lining every drapery, to block the light and protect the face.

Best Use & Limits

What Mariposa does at the window, and what it does not

Best use

Mariposa is a heavy cloth, the kind that makes a drapery read as tailored: a study, a library, a dining room or a bedroom, pinch pleat or ripplefold on a track or rod sized for the weight, lined, often blackout-lined.

Light and privacy

An opaque cloth, so privacy is complete when it is closed. The lining sets the light: a light-filtering sateen keeps a room glowing, an interlining adds body and quiet, a blackout lining turns a bedroom dark (lining guide).

Cloth and care

78% linen, 21% wool, 1% polyester; 34 oz per linear yard (1150 g per linear metre); Martindale 40,000 rubs. Care, by Holland & Sherry's sheet: professional dry clean only.

Limitations

At 58 in a wide panel is made of joined widths; the seams sit inside the pleats. The weight needs a track or rod sized for it; a light decorative rod will bow. No NFPA 701 result in Holland & Sherry's data, so a condo common area or a commercial job that asks for it needs the cloth flame treated with a certificate, if Holland & Sherry can supply it that way, or another cloth.

From Their Sheet

What Holland & Sherry say about Mariposa

End use, in their words

"Upholstery, drapery, wall upholstery, soft goods, and accessories", from Holland & Sherry's spec sheet.

Their drapery note

The cloth is made from natural fibres; drapery should hang before it is hemmed, so it can adjust to the climate of the room; every drapery should be lined, to block light and protect the face.

Fabric direction

Holland & Sherry's sheet gives the direction as up the roll.

Flame tests

NFPA 701, the drapery flame test: not listed; upholstery tests on the sheet: BS 5852 Cigarette & Match Pass; Cal 117-2013 Pass.

Care and handling

Professional dry clean only.

Working With Holland & Sherry

How Mariposa becomes draperies in your home

Your designer specifies

Holland & Sherry sell to the trade, so the cloth is chosen and ordered by your designer, with the colour code and the sample in hand. Not working with a designer? Tell us; we can suggest a cloth we order ourselves.

We measure and give the yardage

We measure the windows, settle the style, the fullness and the lining, and work out the yardage on the width and the repeat, so the order to Holland & Sherry is right the first time.

We make and install

The cloth comes to our Fort Lauderdale workroom, where our five in-house seamstresses cut and sew the draperies, and our own installers hang them on the rod, track or motorized system the window calls for.

Where Mariposa works here

Mariposa would be made up the way our draperies are: pinch pleat, Euro pleat or ripplefold, lined to the room, on a decorative rod, a hand-drawn track or a Lutron or Somfy motorized track, cut and sewn in our Fort Lauderdale workroom and installed by our own team from Miami to Palm Beach.

For the same use, compare Mariposa with Mad Hatter (couture tweed, 53 in, 5 colourways), Kennett (linen horse hair weave, 61 in, 8 colourways) and Willowdale (linen wool tweed, 56 in, 6 colourways).

Good to Know

Mariposa: frequently asked

How many colours does Holland & Sherry Mariposa come in?

5 colourways on Holland & Sherry's site when we read it on October 7, 2026: Bass Brown, Golden, Copper Rose, Vineyard and Spring Green. Every one is listed on this page with its code; Holland & Sherry's photographs of each are on their own site, linked from the table.

Can I buy Mariposa from you?

No. Holland & Sherry sell to the trade, so your designer orders the cloth from them. We make it up and install it: we measure and work out the yardage, the cloth is sent to our Fort Lauderdale workroom, and our seamstresses cut and sew the draperies.

Does Mariposa need a lining?

Holland & Sherry say every drapery should be lined, to block the light and protect the face, and we agree. The lining is chosen for the room: a light-filtering sateen for a living room, an interlining for body and quiet, a blackout lining for a bedroom (lining guide).

Is Mariposa fire rated for drapery?

Holland & Sherry's data gives no NFPA 701 result for it, only upholstery tests (BS 5852 Cigarette & Match; Cal 117-2013). For a residence that is not an issue; where a building asks for NFPA 701 on the drapery, ask your designer whether Holland & Sherry can supply it flame treated with a certificate, or choose another cloth.

What does Mariposa cost made up as draperies?

The cloth is bought through your designer at Holland & Sherry's price, so our quote covers what we make and install: the fabrication, the lining, the track or rod and the installation, worked out from the measure. Ask for a workroom price with the button above and we come back with a figure, not a range.
