Wool, linen and hemp sheers from Holland & Sherry
This page is every Holland & Sherry cloth they file as a sheer or list for drapery as one: 116 colourways in 44 patterns. They are unusual sheers. Wool runs through many of them, as in Harper, a linen and wool sheer 118 inches wide, Wool Challis at 120, Zephyr and Wool Medley at 123 and 125, and the small wool and silk sheers woven in the UK. Beside them are linen sheers from Belgium, hemp sheers from Italy, the Harwood House by Cortney Bishop sheers, wide-width sheers from the Champalimaud collection and three Trevira CS sheers.
Most of the sheers that give a width are wide-width goods, 104 to 131 inches, and on several Holland & Sherry's sheet says the cloth can be used up the roll or turned 90 degrees and railroaded, which is what lets a wall of glass run without a seam. Many of the smaller sheers have no spec sheet and no width on their product page; their pages say so, and the width is confirmed before the yardage. Every pattern opens to its own page with its colourways, Holland & Sherry's figures and a link to their photographs.

How to choose a Holland & Sherry sheer
Wide width for a wall of glass
A wide-width sheer turned 90 degrees covers the drop with no seam: a 118 inch cloth sews to about 110 inches finished without one, and the 123 to 131 inch goods go taller. The width is on every pattern page, and so is what Holland & Sherry's sheet says about the direction.
The stripe and the direction
On Cable Stripe, Plume, Top Stitch and Wool Medley the pattern runs across the width as woven, and Holland & Sherry note it turns vertical when the cloth is railroaded. Which way it should run is a design decision, and it is made before the yardage is worked out.
Natural fibres and humidity
Wool, linen and hemp move with the humidity, and Holland & Sherry's note on their natural-fibre sheers is to hang the drapery before hemming so the cloth adjusts to the room. They also fade in hard sun, so on unshaded west glass a solar shade does the protecting.
Fullness and the track
We sew sheers at two and a half to three times fullness so the wave is even from end to end, on ripplefold snap tape or a hand-set pinch pleat, on a ceiling-mounted hand-drawn or motorized track, with deep double hems weighted to hang plumb.
What a sheer does at the window, and what it does not
By day a sheer takes the glare off a white sofa and the hard edge off a west wall without hiding the water, and it frames the view instead of blocking it. That is why living and dining rooms on the Intracoastal and the ocean run sheers alone, floor to ceiling, wall to wall, on a track that glides the whole run open in silence.
At night, with the lights on inside, the room shows from outside, and no sheer changes that. Where privacy after dark matters, a lined or blackout panel rides on a second track behind the sheer, or a solar or blackout roller sits behind it; the sheer stays the layer you see. A sheer is not a blackout and not a UV shade either: a wool or linen sheer filters some of the light and the UV, and where furniture has to be protected, a solar screen does that job.
Wide-width sheers are not cut into Roman shades; the weave runs sideways in a railroaded panel, which suits a drapery and not the folds of a Roman. Before falling for a colour, check the width against the ceiling height, and on the sheers without a published width, ask, because the width decides whether the wall runs seamless.

Sheers on our installations
Sheers are our most requested drapery, from Brickell and Miami Beach condos to Fort Lauderdale waterfront homes and Palm Beach island, and a Holland & Sherry sheer is made up the way our published projects were, with other houses' cloth: ripplefold sheers on Lutron Sivoia QS tracks across five rooms at the Ritz-Carlton Residences Miami Beach, to the designer's fabric schedule; sheers up to sixteen feet high on wired tracks through a new estate in Southwest Ranches, finished flush to the floor. Every panel is cut and sewn by our five in-house seamstresses in Fort Lauderdale.

Holland & Sherry sheers: frequently asked
Can I buy Holland & Sherry sheers from you?
No. Holland & Sherry sell to the trade, so your designer orders the cloth. We measure, give the yardage, and make and install the sheers in our own Fort Lauderdale workroom.
Which Holland & Sherry sheer runs seamless across a whole wall?
The wide-width ones, 104 to 131 inches. Turned 90 degrees, the width becomes the drop: a 118 inch cloth sews to about 110 inches finished without a seam, and the wider goods go taller. Holland & Sherry's sheets for Demure, Flutter Weave, Lilo and Zephyr say they can be used up the roll or railroaded.
Do Holland & Sherry sheers give privacy at night?
No sheer does once the lights are on inside. By day it filters the light and keeps the view; at night a lined or blackout panel on a second track behind it, or a roller behind it, gives the privacy.
Are Holland & Sherry sheers fire rated?
Harper's sheet says it can be treated to pass NFPA 701, the drapery flame test a condo association or a hotel asks for. The Trevira CS sheers, Belvedere, Broughton and Capri, are flame retardant in the fibre itself. For the others Holland & Sherry list no NFPA 701 result; ask through your designer before specifying one for a common area.
How are wool and linen sheers cleaned?
By the cloth's own instructions, which for Harper read professional dry clean only. Holland & Sherry ship their wide-width sheers folded on a tube and advise ironing out the creases, and their note on the natural-fibre sheers is to hang the drapery before hemming so the cloth adjusts to the room.
Ripplefold or pinch pleat for a sheer?
Ripplefold is the modern standard: a continuous even wave that stacks tight on a track, set by the snap tape. Pinch pleat reads more traditional and suits a decorative rod. Both are sewn in our own workroom at two and a half to three times fullness.
