Holland & Sherry Sheers

Hemp wool semi-sheer at 118 in for walls of glass, in 2 colourways

Plume is a hemp wool semi-sheer from Holland & Sherry (71% hemp, 29% wool, 118 in wide, made in Italy). It comes in 2 colourways, Silkie White and Natural. Their spec sheet gives its end use as "Drapery and window treatments".

As woven, the pattern runs across the width; Holland & Sherry note it can be turned 90 degrees (railroaded) so the pattern runs vertically, and the width becomes the drop, and a 118 inch cloth sews to about 110 inches finished without a seam. The repeat is 2.28 in down, matched at every seam and across the windows of a room, so the yardage is worked out on the repeat rather than the finished size.

Hemp is a bast fibre like linen, matte and crisp, and it moves with the humidity in the same way; on bright glass a solar roller behind it takes the sun first. It weighs 440 g per linear metre (about 14 oz per linear yard) by Holland & Sherry's figures.

Their drapery note advises hanging the drapery before it is hemmed, so the cloth settles to the room.

Best Use & Limits

What Plume does at the window, and what it does not

Best use

Plume is a wide-width sheer, so it is for walls of glass: ripplefold on a ceiling track, two and a half to three times fullness so the wave is even from end to end, in living and dining rooms where the point is the light and the view.

Light and privacy

A sheer filters hard sunlight into an even glow and keeps the view. It gives no privacy at night with the lights on, so a bedroom takes a lined or blackout panel on a second track behind it.

Cloth and care

71% hemp, 29% wool; 440 g per linear metre (about 14 oz per linear yard).

Limitations

No privacy at night with the lights on, and no blackout; it is layered where either is needed. Natural fibres fade in hard sun, so on unshaded south or west glass a solar roller behind it takes the sun first. No NFPA 701 result in Holland & Sherry's data, so a condo common area or a commercial job that asks for it needs the cloth flame treated with a certificate, if Holland & Sherry can supply it that way, or another cloth.

From Their Sheet

What Holland & Sherry say about Plume

End use, in their words

"Drapery and window treatments", from Holland & Sherry's spec sheet.

Their drapery note

The cloth is made from natural fibres; drapery should hang before it is hemmed, so it can adjust to the climate of the room.

Fabric direction

As woven, the pattern runs across the width; Holland & Sherry note it can be turned 90 degrees (railroaded) so the pattern runs vertically, and the width becomes the drop, and a 118 inch cloth sews to about 110 inches finished without a seam.

Flame tests

NFPA 701, the drapery flame test: not listed.

Care and handling

Wide-width goods are shipped folded, and Holland & Sherry advise ironing out the creases.

Working With Holland & Sherry

How Plume becomes sheers in your home

Your designer specifies

Holland & Sherry sell to the trade, so the cloth is chosen and ordered by your designer, with the colour code and the sample in hand. Not working with a designer? Tell us; we can suggest a cloth we order ourselves.

We measure and give the yardage

We measure the windows, settle the style, the fullness and the lining, and work out the yardage on the width and the repeat, so the order to Holland & Sherry is right the first time.

We make and install

The cloth comes to our Fort Lauderdale workroom, where our five in-house seamstresses cut and sew the sheers, and our own installers hang them on the rod, track or motorized system the window calls for.

South Florida

Where Plume works here

Sheers are our most requested drapery, from Brickell and Miami Beach condos to Fort Lauderdale waterfront homes and Palm Beach island, and Plume would be made up the way ours are: ripplefold on a ceiling track, deep double hems weighted to hang plumb, the fullness set for the cloth, as across five rooms at the Ritz-Carlton Residences Miami Beach on Lutron Sivoia QS tracks (other cloths, to the designer's schedule). Every panel is cut and sewn by our five in-house seamstresses in Fort Lauderdale.

For the same use, compare Plume with Harper (linen wool sheer, 118 in, 7 colourways), Wool Challis (mélange wool sheer, 120 in, 7 colourways) and Demure (hemp crepe sheer, 125 in, 4 colourways).

Plume: frequently asked

How many colours does Holland & Sherry Plume come in?

2 colourways on Holland & Sherry's site when we read it on October 7, 2026: Silkie White and Natural. Every one is listed on this page with its code; Holland & Sherry's photographs of each are on their own site, linked from the table.

Can I buy Plume from you?

No. Holland & Sherry sell to the trade, so your designer orders the cloth from them. We make it up and install it: we measure and work out the yardage, the cloth is sent to our Fort Lauderdale workroom, and our seamstresses cut and sew the sheers.

Is Plume fire rated for drapery?

Holland & Sherry's data gives no NFPA 701 result for it. For a residence that is not an issue; where a building asks for NFPA 701 on the drapery, ask your designer whether Holland & Sherry can supply it flame treated with a certificate, or choose another cloth.

Can Plume run without seams?

At 118 in it is a wide-width cloth: turned 90 degrees, the width becomes the drop, and a 118 inch cloth sews to about 110 inches finished without a seam. Taller than that, it is seamed.

What does Plume cost made up as sheers?

The cloth is bought through your designer at Holland & Sherry's price, so our quote covers what we make and install: the fabrication, the track or rod and the installation, worked out from the measure. Ask for a workroom price with the button above and we come back with a figure, not a range.
