A linen horse hair weave at 61 in, in 8 colourways

Holland & Sherry make Kennett as a linen horse hair weave, in their Linen Weaves collection (62% wool, 38% linen, 61 in wide, made in Chile). It comes in 8 colourways, White Phlox, Cremello, Chestnut Brown, Turf Green, Celadon, Aero Blue, Falls Blue and Burnished Blue. Their spec sheet gives its end use as "Upholstery, window treatments, soft goods and accessories". It is new in their Fall 2026 collection.

The 61 in width runs up the roll, so panels are made of joined widths and the seams fall inside the pleats. The pattern runs across the width of the cloth, so on a panel cut up the roll it reads as horizontal bands, matched from width to width. The repeat is 8.5 in down, matched at every seam and across the windows of a room, so the yardage is worked out on the repeat rather than the finished size.

Wool is naturally flame resistant but not sun resistant: it fades and weakens in direct sun, so it is lined, and on unshaded south or west glass it wants a solar shade in front of it. It can stretch a little over time in humid air, and like silk it is a protein fibre that wants an air-conditioned room rather than a house closed up for the summer (what each fibre does). At 36 oz per linear yard (1140 g per linear metre) it is a heavy cloth, so the track or rod is sized for the weight.

Their drapery note advises hanging the drapery before it is hemmed, so the cloth settles to the room, and lining every drapery, to block the light and protect the face.

Best Use & Limits

What Kennett does at the window, and what it does not

Best use

Kennett is a heavy cloth, the kind that makes a drapery read as tailored: a study, a library, a dining room or a bedroom, pinch pleat or ripplefold on a track or rod sized for the weight, lined, often blackout-lined.

Light and privacy

Closed, Kennett gives full privacy; how much light comes through is decided by the lining we sew behind it: light-filtering for living rooms, interlining for body and quiet, blackout for bedrooms (the lining guide).

Cloth and care

62% wool, 38% linen; 36 oz per linear yard (1140 g per linear metre); Martindale 20,000 rubs. Care, by Holland & Sherry's sheet: professional dry clean only.

Limitations

Not for unshaded south or west glass on its own: the sun fades natural fibres, so a shade goes in front of it there. At 61 in a wide panel is made of joined widths, and the repeat is matched at every seam, which costs yardage. The weight needs a track or rod sized for it; a light decorative rod will bow. No NFPA 701 result in Holland & Sherry's data, so a condo common area or a commercial job that asks for it needs the cloth flame treated with a certificate, if Holland & Sherry can supply it that way, or another cloth.

From Their Sheet

What Holland & Sherry say about Kennett

End use, in their words

"Upholstery, window treatments, soft goods and accessories", from Holland & Sherry's spec sheet.

Their drapery note

The cloth is made from natural fibres; drapery should hang before it is hemmed, so it can adjust to the climate of the room; every drapery should be lined, to block light and protect the face.

Fabric direction

The pattern runs across the width of the cloth, so on a panel cut up the roll it reads as horizontal bands, matched from width to width.

Flame tests

NFPA 701, the drapery flame test: not listed; upholstery tests on the sheet: BS 5852 Cigarette & Match Pass; Cal 117-2013 Pass.

Care and handling

Professional dry clean only.

Working With Holland & Sherry

How Kennett becomes draperies in your home

Your designer specifies

Holland & Sherry sell to the trade, so the cloth is chosen and ordered by your designer, with the colour code and the sample in hand. Not working with a designer? Tell us; we can suggest a cloth we order ourselves.

We measure and give the yardage

We measure the windows, settle the style, the fullness and the lining, and work out the yardage on the width and the repeat, so the order to Holland & Sherry is right the first time.

We make and install

The cloth comes to our Fort Lauderdale workroom, where our five in-house seamstresses cut and sew the draperies, and our own installers hang them on the rod, track or motorized system the window calls for.

Where Kennett works here

We have made Holland & Sherry wool up before: at the Ritz-Carlton Residences Miami Beach the designer's schedule called for two Holland & Sherry wool jacquards, made up as blackout drapery on Lutron Sivoia QS tracks, the reversible flannel hung with its lighter face outward as specified. Kennett would be made the same way: lined, for an air-conditioned room, with a shade in front of it on bright glass.

For the same use, compare Kennett with Willowdale (linen wool tweed, 56 in, 6 colourways), Cheshire (linen wool diamond, 59 in, 5 colourways) and Mad Hatter (couture tweed, 53 in, 5 colourways).

Kennett: frequently asked

How many colours does Holland & Sherry Kennett come in?

8 colourways on Holland & Sherry's site when we read it on October 7, 2026: White Phlox, Cremello, Chestnut Brown, Turf Green, Celadon, Aero Blue, Falls Blue and Burnished Blue. Every one is listed on this page with its code; Holland & Sherry's photographs of each are on their own site, linked from the table.

Can I buy Kennett from you?

No. Holland & Sherry sell to the trade, so your designer orders the cloth from them. We make it up and install it: we measure and work out the yardage, the cloth is sent to our Fort Lauderdale workroom, and our seamstresses cut and sew the draperies.

Will Kennett need seams?

Yes on most windows: at 61 in it runs up the roll, so a panel wider than one width is made of joined widths, with the seams hidden inside the pleats and the repeat matched at each seam.

Is Kennett fire rated for drapery?

Holland & Sherry's data gives no NFPA 701 result for it, only upholstery tests (BS 5852 Cigarette & Match; Cal 117-2013). For a residence that is not an issue; where a building asks for NFPA 701 on the drapery, ask your designer whether Holland & Sherry can supply it flame treated with a certificate, or choose another cloth.

What does Kennett cost made up as draperies?

The cloth is bought through your designer at Holland & Sherry's price, so our quote covers what we make and install: the fabrication, the lining, the track or rod and the installation, worked out from the measure. Ask for a workroom price with the button above and we come back with a figure, not a range.
