Holland & Sherry make Silk Matka as a silk plain (100% silk, 53 in wide, made in India). It comes in 27 colourways, Oatmeal, Ivory, White, Linen, Antique, Toast, Pelt, Fairisle and 19 more. Their spec sheet gives its end use as "Drapery and window treatments, decorative upholstery, wall upholstery, soft goods, and accessories".
At 53 in it is cut up the roll like a conventional drapery cloth: a wide panel is made of joined widths, with each seam hidden inside a pleat or a ripplefold wave.
Silk gives the lustre; it is also the fibre the sun damages most, so a silk drapery is lined and interlined and hung where a shade or the architecture keeps the direct sun off it. It weighs 250 g per linear metre (about 8 oz per linear yard) by Holland & Sherry's figures.

What Silk Matka does at the window, and what it does not
Best use
Silk Matka is a silk drapery cloth for the rooms that show it off and keep the sun off it: a dining room, a formal living room, a bedroom with a blackout lining behind the face.
Light and privacy
Closed, Silk Matka gives full privacy; how much light comes through is decided by the lining we sew behind it: light-filtering for living rooms, interlining for body and quiet, blackout for bedrooms (the lining guide).
Cloth and care
100% silk; 250 g per linear metre (about 8 oz per linear yard).
Limitations
Not for unshaded south or west glass on its own: the sun fades natural fibres, so a shade goes in front of it there. At 53 in a wide panel is made of joined widths; the seams sit inside the pleats. No NFPA 701 result in Holland & Sherry's data, so a condo common area or a commercial job that asks for it needs the cloth flame treated with a certificate, if Holland & Sherry can supply it that way, or another cloth.

Your designer specifies
Holland & Sherry sell to the trade, so the cloth is chosen and ordered by your designer, with the colour code and the sample in hand. Not working with a designer? Tell us; we can suggest a cloth we order ourselves.
We measure and give the yardage
We measure the windows, settle the style, the fullness and the lining, and work out the yardage on the width and the repeat, so the order to Holland & Sherry is right the first time.
We make and install
The cloth comes to our Fort Lauderdale workroom, where our five in-house seamstresses cut and sew the draperies, and our own installers hang them on the rod, track or motorized system the window calls for.
