34 colourways of wool silk sateen, 53 in wide

Holland & Sherry make Spectator as a wool silk sateen (56% silk, 44% wool, 53 in wide, made in India). It comes in 34 colourways, Mother of Pearl, Pumice, Macaroon, Rye, Dune, Pastis, Antoinette, Alfresco and 26 more. Their spec sheet gives its end use as "Drapery and window treatments, decorative upholstery, wall upholstery, soft goods, and accessories".

The 53 in width runs up the roll, so panels are made of joined widths and the seams fall inside the pleats.

Silk gives the lustre; it is also the fibre the sun damages most, so a silk drapery is lined and interlined and hung where a shade or the architecture keeps the direct sun off it. It weighs 195 g per linear metre (about 6 oz per linear yard), light enough for a long run on a ceiling track.

Their drapery note advises hanging the drapery before it is hemmed, so the cloth settles to the room.

Best Use & Limits

What Spectator does at the window, and what it does not

Best use

Spectator is a silk drapery cloth for the rooms that show it off and keep the sun off it: a dining room, a formal living room, a bedroom with a blackout lining behind the face.

Light and privacy

An opaque cloth, so privacy is complete when it is closed. The lining sets the light: a light-filtering sateen keeps a room glowing, an interlining adds body and quiet, a blackout lining turns a bedroom dark (lining guide).

Cloth and care

56% silk, 44% wool; 195 g per linear metre (about 6 oz per linear yard).

Limitations

Not for unshaded south or west glass on its own: the sun fades natural fibres, so a shade goes in front of it there. At 53 in a wide panel is made of joined widths; the seams sit inside the pleats. No NFPA 701 result in Holland & Sherry's data, so a condo common area or a commercial job that asks for it needs the cloth flame treated with a certificate, if Holland & Sherry can supply it that way, or another cloth.

Colour names, codes, colour families, widths, compositions, repeats, weights and origin are Holland & Sherry's own, from their product page for each colourway, read on October 7, 2026. Working With Holland & Sherry

How Spectator becomes draperies in your home

Your designer specifies

Holland & Sherry sell to the trade, so the cloth is chosen and ordered by your designer, with the colour code and the sample in hand. Not working with a designer? Tell us; we can suggest a cloth we order ourselves.

We measure and give the yardage

We measure the windows, settle the style, the fullness and the lining, and work out the yardage on the width and the repeat, so the order to Holland & Sherry is right the first time.

We make and install

The cloth comes to our Fort Lauderdale workroom, where our five in-house seamstresses cut and sew the draperies, and our own installers hang them on the rod, track or motorized system the window calls for.

Where Spectator works here

A silk like Spectator goes where the sun does not reach it: a dining room, an inner hall, a bedroom on the shaded side, interlined for body and lined for the light. It is cut and sewn in our Fort Lauderdale workroom and installed by our own team from Miami to Palm Beach.

For the same use, compare Spectator with Musette (silk wool velvet, 55 in, 10 colourways), Patagonia (mélange wool flannel, 59 in, 72 colourways) and Andes (mélange wool sateen, 59 in, 66 colourways).

Good to Know

Spectator: frequently asked

How many colours does Holland & Sherry Spectator come in?

34 colourways on Holland & Sherry's site when we read it on October 7, 2026: Mother of Pearl, Pumice, Macaroon, Rye, Dune, Pastis, Antoinette, Alfresco, Lakestone, Mineral and 24 more. Every one is listed on this page with its code; Holland & Sherry's photographs of each are on their own site, linked from the table.

Can I buy Spectator from you?

No. Holland & Sherry sell to the trade, so your designer orders the cloth from them. We make it up and install it: we measure and work out the yardage, the cloth is sent to our Fort Lauderdale workroom, and our seamstresses cut and sew the draperies.

Is Spectator fire rated for drapery?

Holland & Sherry's data gives no NFPA 701 result for it, only upholstery tests (BS 5852 Cigarette; Cal 117-2013). For a residence that is not an issue; where a building asks for NFPA 701 on the drapery, ask your designer whether Holland & Sherry can supply it flame treated with a certificate, or choose another cloth.

Does Spectator need a lining?

Yes. The lining is chosen for the room: a light-filtering sateen for a living room, an interlining for body and quiet, a blackout lining for a bedroom (lining guide).

What does Spectator cost made up as draperies?

The cloth is bought through your designer at Holland & Sherry's price, so our quote covers what we make and install: the fabrication, the lining, the track or rod and the installation, worked out from the measure. Ask for a workroom price with the button above and we come back with a figure, not a range.
