26 colourways of boiled wool, 51 to 59 in wide

Chamonix is a boiled wool from Holland & Sherry (100% wool, 51 to 59 in wide, made in Italy, Austria and Germany). The range runs to 26 colourways: White, Grey White, Grey Brown, Smoke, Lt. Grey, Navy, Bright Red, Maroon plus 18 more. Their spec sheet gives its end use as "Upholstery, drapery, wall upholstery, accessories, soft goods, and suitable for commercial use".

At 51 to 59 in it is cut up the roll like a conventional drapery cloth: a wide panel is made of joined widths, with each seam hidden inside a pleat or a ripplefold wave.

Wool is naturally flame resistant but not sun resistant: it fades and weakens in direct sun, so it is lined, and on unshaded south or west glass it wants a solar shade in front of it. It can stretch a little over time in humid air, and like silk it is a protein fibre that wants an air-conditioned room rather than a house closed up for the summer (what each fibre does). It weighs 20 oz per linear yard (630 g per linear metre) by Holland & Sherry's figures.

Best Use & Limits

What Chamonix does at the window, and what it does not

Best use

Chamonix is a tailored drapery cloth: pinch pleat, Euro pleat or ripplefold panels in a study, a bedroom or a living room, lined, on a decorative rod or a track.

Light and privacy

Closed, Chamonix gives full privacy; how much light comes through is decided by the lining we sew behind it: light-filtering for living rooms, interlining for body and quiet, blackout for bedrooms (the lining guide).

Cloth and care

100% wool; 20 oz per linear yard (630 g per linear metre); Martindale 40-50,000 rubs; Wyzenbeek 50,000 double rubs. Care, by Holland & Sherry's sheet: professional dry clean only.

Limitations

Not for unshaded south or west glass on its own: the sun fades natural fibres, so a shade goes in front of it there. At 51 to 59 in a wide panel is made of joined widths; the seams sit inside the pleats. No NFPA 701 result in Holland & Sherry's data, so a condo common area or a commercial job that asks for it needs the cloth flame treated with a certificate, if Holland & Sherry can supply it that way, or another cloth. Holland & Sherry flag 1 of the colourways as limited stock.

Colour names, codes, colour families, widths, compositions, repeats, weights and origin are Holland & Sherry's own, from their product page for each colourway, read on October 7, 2026. Working With Holland & Sherry

How Chamonix becomes draperies in your home

Your designer specifies

Holland & Sherry sell to the trade, so the cloth is chosen and ordered by your designer, with the colour code and the sample in hand. Not working with a designer? Tell us; we can suggest a cloth we order ourselves.

We measure and give the yardage

We measure the windows, settle the style, the fullness and the lining, and work out the yardage on the width and the repeat, so the order to Holland & Sherry is right the first time.

We make and install

The cloth comes to our Fort Lauderdale workroom, where our five in-house seamstresses cut and sew the draperies, and our own installers hang them on the rod, track or motorized system the window calls for.

Where Chamonix works here

We have made Holland & Sherry wool up before: at the Ritz-Carlton Residences Miami Beach the designer's schedule called for two Holland & Sherry wool jacquards, made up as blackout drapery on Lutron Sivoia QS tracks, the reversible flannel hung with its lighter face outward as specified. Chamonix would be made the same way: lined, for an air-conditioned room, with a shade in front of it on bright glass.

For the same use, compare Chamonix with Patagonia (mélange wool flannel, 59 in, 72 colourways), Andes (mélange wool sateen, 59 in, 66 colourways) and Spectator (wool silk sateen, 53 in, 34 colourways).

Good to Know

Chamonix: frequently asked

How many colours does Holland & Sherry Chamonix come in?

26 colourways on Holland & Sherry's site when we read it on October 7, 2026: White, Grey White, Grey Brown, Smoke, Lt. Grey, Navy, Bright Red, Maroon, Chocolate, Black and 16 more. Every one is listed on this page with its code; Holland & Sherry's photographs of each are on their own site, linked from the table.

Can I buy Chamonix from you?

No. Holland & Sherry sell to the trade, so your designer orders the cloth from them. We make it up and install it: we measure and work out the yardage, the cloth is sent to our Fort Lauderdale workroom, and our seamstresses cut and sew the draperies.

How is Chamonix cleaned?

By Holland & Sherry's sheet: professional dry clean only. For dust between cleanings, their care note says to brush gently or vacuum with an upholstery attachment. More in cleaning shades and drapery.

Is Chamonix fire rated for drapery?

Holland & Sherry's data gives no NFPA 701 result for it, only upholstery tests (Cal 117-2013; NFPA 260; BS 5852 Cigarette). For a residence that is not an issue; where a building asks for NFPA 701 on the drapery, ask your designer whether Holland & Sherry can supply it flame treated with a certificate, or choose another cloth.

What does Chamonix cost made up as draperies?

The cloth is bought through your designer at Holland & Sherry's price, so our quote covers what we make and install: the fabrication, the lining, the track or rod and the installation, worked out from the measure. Ask for a workroom price with the button above and we come back with a figure, not a range.
