Sporting Stripe is one of the Holland & Sherry cloths we make up as draperies: a wool sateen in their Sporting Collection (100% wool, 59 in wide, made in Chile). The range runs to 4 colourways: Club White, Turf, Fairway and Waterway. Their spec sheet gives its end use as "Upholstery, drapery, wall upholstery, soft goods, and accessories".
The 59 in width runs up the roll, so panels are made of joined widths and the seams fall inside the pleats. The stripe runs up the roll, by Holland & Sherry's sheet, so it stays vertical on a panel made of joined widths. The repeat is 8.14 in across, matched at every seam and across the windows of a room, so the yardage is worked out on the repeat rather than the finished size.
Wool is naturally flame resistant but not sun resistant: it fades and weakens in direct sun, so it is lined, and on unshaded south or west glass it wants a solar shade in front of it. It can stretch a little over time in humid air, and like silk it is a protein fibre that wants an air-conditioned room rather than a house closed up for the summer (what each fibre does). It weighs 17 oz per linear yard (550 g per linear metre) by Holland & Sherry's figures.
Their drapery note advises hanging the drapery before it is hemmed, so the cloth settles to the room, and lining every drapery, to block the light and protect the face.

What Sporting Stripe does at the window, and what it does not
Best use
We would make Sporting Stripe up as tailored panels, pinch pleat or ripplefold, lined, for a bedroom, a study or a living room that wants the warmth of a suiting cloth.
Light and privacy
Closed, Sporting Stripe gives full privacy; how much light comes through is decided by the lining we sew behind it: light-filtering for living rooms, interlining for body and quiet, blackout for bedrooms (the lining guide).

Limitations
Not for unshaded south or west glass on its own: the sun fades natural fibres, so a shade goes in front of it there. At 59 in a wide panel is made of joined widths, and the repeat is matched at every seam, which costs yardage. No NFPA 701 result in Holland & Sherry's data, so a condo common area or a commercial job that asks for it needs the cloth flame treated with a certificate, if Holland & Sherry can supply it that way, or another cloth.

We measure the windows, settle the style, the fullness and the lining, and work out the yardage on the width and the repeat, so the order to Holland & Sherry is right the first time.
We make and install
The cloth comes to our Fort Lauderdale workroom, where our five in-house seamstresses cut and sew the draperies, and our own installers hang them on the rod, track or motorized system the window calls for.
