6 colourways of brushed alpaca wool, 57 in wide

Holland & Sherry make Livingston as a brushed alpaca wool, in their Western Skies collection (70% alpaca, 30% wool, 57 in wide, made in Italy). The range runs to 6 colourways: Bridger, Buckskin, Flame Willow, Bighorn, Bison and Andesite. Their spec sheet gives its end use as "Upholstery, drapery, wall upholstery, soft goods, and accessories".

The 57 in width runs up the roll, so panels are made of joined widths and the seams fall inside the pleats. Holland & Sherry's sheet gives the direction as up the roll.

Alpaca is a protein fibre like wool, with a brushed softness and good warmth for its weight; it is lined against the sun and kept behind a shade on bright south and west glass. It weighs 20 oz per linear yard (650 g per linear metre) by Holland & Sherry's figures.

Their drapery note advises hanging the drapery before it is hemmed, so the cloth settles to the room, and lining every drapery, to block the light and protect the face.

Best Use & Limits

What Livingston does at the window, and what it does not

Best use

We would make Livingston up as tailored panels, pinch pleat or ripplefold, lined, for a bedroom, a study or a living room that wants the warmth of a suiting cloth.

Light and privacy

Closed, Livingston gives full privacy; how much light comes through is decided by the lining we sew behind it: light-filtering for living rooms, interlining for body and quiet, blackout for bedrooms (the lining guide).

Cloth and care

70% alpaca, 30% wool; 20 oz per linear yard (650 g per linear metre); Martindale 15,000 rubs. Care, by Holland & Sherry's sheet: professional dry clean only.

Limitations

Not for unshaded south or west glass on its own: the sun fades natural fibres, so a shade goes in front of it there. At 57 in a wide panel is made of joined widths; the seams sit inside the pleats. No NFPA 701 result in Holland & Sherry's data, so a condo common area or a commercial job that asks for it needs the cloth flame treated with a certificate, if Holland & Sherry can supply it that way, or another cloth.

End use, in their words

"Upholstery, drapery, wall upholstery, soft goods, and accessories", from Holland & Sherry's spec sheet.

Fabric direction

Holland & Sherry's sheet gives the direction as up the roll.

Flame tests

NFPA 701, the drapery flame test: not listed; upholstery tests on the sheet: BS 5852 Cigarette & Match Pass; Cal 117-2013 Pass.

Working With Holland & Sherry

How Livingston becomes draperies in your home

Your designer specifies

Holland & Sherry sell to the trade, so the cloth is chosen and ordered by your designer, with the colour code and the sample in hand. Not working with a designer? Tell us; we can suggest a cloth we order ourselves.

We measure and give the yardage

We measure the windows, settle the style, the fullness and the lining, and work out the yardage on the width and the repeat, so the order to Holland & Sherry is right the first time.

We make and install

The cloth comes to our Fort Lauderdale workroom, where our five in-house seamstresses cut and sew the draperies, and our own installers hang them on the rod, track or motorized system the window calls for.

South Florida

Where Livingston works here

In South Florida a wool drapery belongs in an air-conditioned room with the glass shaded: a study, a dining room, a bedroom with a blackout lining, a media room where weight and quiet matter. At the Ritz-Carlton Residences Miami Beach we made two Holland & Sherry wool jacquards up as blackout drapery on Lutron Sivoia QS tracks, to the designer's schedule; Livingston would be built the same way.

For the same use, compare Livingston with Rockslide (wool linen texture, 55 in, 6 colourways), Cheyenne (wool jacquard, 53 in, 5 colourways) and Pioneer Plaid (wool plaid, 59 in, 5 colourways).

Good to Know

Livingston: frequently asked

How many colours does Holland & Sherry Livingston come in?

6 colourways on Holland & Sherry's site when we read it on October 7, 2026: Bridger, Buckskin, Flame Willow, Bighorn, Bison and Andesite. Every one is listed on this page with its code; Holland & Sherry's photographs of each are on their own site, linked from the table.

Can I buy Livingston from you?

No. Holland & Sherry sell to the trade, so your designer orders the cloth from them. We make it up and install it: we measure and work out the yardage, the cloth is sent to our Fort Lauderdale workroom, and our seamstresses cut and sew the draperies.

Will Livingston need seams?

Yes on most windows: at 57 in it runs up the roll, so a panel wider than one width is made of joined widths, with the seams hidden inside the pleats.

Is Livingston fire rated for drapery?

Holland & Sherry's data gives no NFPA 701 result for it, only upholstery tests (BS 5852 Cigarette & Match; Cal 117-2013). For a residence that is not an issue; where a building asks for NFPA 701 on the drapery, ask your designer whether Holland & Sherry can supply it flame treated with a certificate, or choose another cloth.

What does Livingston cost made up as draperies?

The cloth is bought through your designer at Holland & Sherry's price, so our quote covers what we make and install: the fabrication, the lining, the track or rod and the installation, worked out from the measure. Ask for a workroom price with the button above and we come back with a figure, not a range.
