6 colourways of wool jacquard, 50 in wide

Cuillin is a wool jacquard from Holland & Sherry, in their Highland Fling collection (54% wool, 23% acrylic, 17% cotton, 6% polyester, 50 in wide, made in France). It comes in 6 colourways, Snow Bunting, Skye Blue, Broom, Clover, Agate and Amethyst. Their spec sheet gives its end use as "Light upholstery, drapery, wall upholstery, soft goods and accessories".

The 50 in width runs up the roll, so panels are made of joined widths and the seams fall inside the pleats. Holland & Sherry give the repeat as 25.4 in across, 38.6 in down; we match it across every seam and from window to window, which adds yardage and is figured into the order.

Wool is naturally flame resistant but not sun resistant: it fades and weakens in direct sun, so it is lined, and on unshaded south or west glass it wants a solar shade in front of it. It can stretch a little over time in humid air, and like silk it is a protein fibre that wants an air-conditioned room rather than a house closed up for the summer (what each fibre does). At 28 oz per linear yard (890 g per linear metre) it is a heavy cloth, so the track or rod is sized for the weight.

Their drapery note advises hanging the drapery before it is hemmed, so the cloth settles to the room, and lining every drapery, to block the light and protect the face.

Best Use & Limits

What Cuillin does at the window, and what it does not

Best use

Cuillin is a heavy cloth, the kind that makes a drapery read as tailored: a study, a library, a dining room or a bedroom, pinch pleat or ripplefold on a track or rod sized for the weight, lined, often blackout-lined.

Light and privacy

An opaque cloth, so privacy is complete when it is closed. The lining sets the light: a light-filtering sateen keeps a room glowing, an interlining adds body and quiet, a blackout lining turns a bedroom dark (lining guide).

Cloth and care

54% wool, 23% acrylic, 17% cotton, 6% polyester; 28 oz per linear yard (890 g per linear metre); Martindale 15,000 rubs.

Limitations

Not for unshaded south or west glass on its own: the sun fades natural fibres, so a shade goes in front of it there. At 50 in a wide panel is made of joined widths, and the repeat is matched at every seam, which costs yardage. The weight needs a track or rod sized for it; a light decorative rod will bow. No NFPA 701 result in Holland & Sherry's data, so a condo common area or a commercial job that asks for it needs the cloth flame treated with a certificate, if Holland & Sherry can supply it that way, or another cloth.

End use, in their words

"Light upholstery, drapery, wall upholstery, soft goods and accessories", from Holland & Sherry's spec sheet.

Their drapery note

Drapery should hang before it is hemmed, so it can adjust to the climate of the room; every drapery should be lined, to block light and protect the face.

Flame tests

NFPA 701, the drapery flame test: not listed; upholstery tests on the sheet: BS 5852 Cigarette & Match meets requirements; Cal 117-2013 Pass.

Working With Holland & Sherry

How Cuillin becomes draperies in your home

Your designer specifies

Holland & Sherry sell to the trade, so the cloth is chosen and ordered by your designer, with the colour code and the sample in hand. Not working with a designer? Tell us; we can suggest a cloth we order ourselves.

We measure and give the yardage

We measure the windows, settle the style, the fullness and the lining, and work out the yardage on the width and the repeat, so the order to Holland & Sherry is right the first time.

We make and install

The cloth comes to our Fort Lauderdale workroom, where our five in-house seamstresses cut and sew the draperies, and our own installers hang them on the rod, track or motorized system the window calls for.

South Florida

Where Cuillin works here

In South Florida a wool drapery belongs in an air-conditioned room with the glass shaded: a study, a dining room, a bedroom with a blackout lining, a media room where weight and quiet matter. At the Ritz-Carlton Residences Miami Beach we made two Holland & Sherry wool jacquards up as blackout drapery on Lutron Sivoia QS tracks, to the designer's schedule; Cuillin would be built the same way.

For the same use, compare Cuillin with Musette (silk wool velvet, 55 in, 10 colourways), Glencoe (wool jacquard, 51 in, 6 colourways) and Grampian (brushed wool jacquard, 53 in, 6 colourways).

Good to Know

Cuillin: frequently asked

How many colours does Holland & Sherry Cuillin come in?

6 colourways on Holland & Sherry's site when we read it on October 7, 2026: Snow Bunting, Skye Blue, Broom, Clover, Agate and Amethyst. Every one is listed on this page with its code; Holland & Sherry's photographs of each are on their own site, linked from the table.

Can I buy Cuillin from you?

No. Holland & Sherry sell to the trade, so your designer orders the cloth from them. We make it up and install it: we measure and work out the yardage, the cloth is sent to our Fort Lauderdale workroom, and our seamstresses cut and sew the draperies.

Is Cuillin fire rated for drapery?

Holland & Sherry's data gives no NFPA 701 result for it, only upholstery tests (BS 5852 Cigarette & Match; Cal 117-2013). For a residence that is not an issue; where a building asks for NFPA 701 on the drapery, ask your designer whether Holland & Sherry can supply it flame treated with a certificate, or choose another cloth.

Do you match the Cuillin repeat?

Always. Holland & Sherry give the repeat as 25.4 in across, 38.6 in down; we match it at every seam and from window to window, so the yardage your designer orders is worked out on the repeat.

What does Cuillin cost made up as draperies?

The cloth is bought through your designer at Holland & Sherry's price, so our quote covers what we make and install: the fabrication, the lining, the track or rod and the installation, worked out from the measure. Ask for a workroom price with the button above and we come back with a figure, not a range.
