Holland & Sherry make Savile Row Windsor Tweed as a Windsor tweed, in their Savile Row collection (100% wool, 55 in wide, made in Chile). The range runs to 23 colourways: Gillian, Margaret, Jessie, Elaine, Evelyn, Joyce, May, Claire plus 15 more. Their spec sheet gives its end use as "Upholstery, drapery, wall upholstery, soft goods, accessories, and wall upholstery".
At 55 in it is cut up the roll like a conventional drapery cloth: a wide panel is made of joined widths, with each seam hidden inside a pleat or a ripplefold wave. The repeat is 0.7 in across, matched at every seam and across the windows of a room, so the yardage is worked out on the repeat rather than the finished size.
Wool brings weight, a soft hand and quiet, and it resists flame on its own; what it does not resist is the sun, which fades and weakens it, so it wants a lining and, on bright south and west glass, a shade in front of it. In a lived-in, air-conditioned house it is at home; in a house shut up for the summer, humidity is its risk (curtain fabric types). Best use
Savile Row Windsor Tweed is a tailored drapery cloth: pinch pleat, Euro pleat or ripplefold panels in a study, a bedroom or a living room, lined, on a decorative rod or a track.
Light and privacy
An opaque cloth, so privacy is complete when it is closed. The lining sets the light: a light-filtering sateen keeps a room glowing, an interlining adds body and quiet, a blackout lining turns a bedroom dark (lining guide).
Cloth and care
100% wool; 20 oz per linear yard (650 g per linear metre); Martindale 25,000 rubs; Wyzenbeek 25,000 double rubs. Care, by Holland & Sherry's sheet: professional dry clean only, cleaning code S. Holland & Sherry list it as PFAS free.
Limitations
Not for unshaded south or west glass on its own: the sun fades natural fibres, so a shade goes in front of it there. At 55 in a wide panel is made of joined widths, and the repeat is matched at every seam, which costs yardage. No NFPA 701 result in Holland & Sherry's data, so a condo common area or a commercial job that asks for it needs the cloth flame treated with a certificate, if Holland & Sherry can supply it that way, or another cloth.
