Holland & Sherry Prince of Wales
Wool check, 4 colourways, 100% wool, 56 in wide. Holland & Sherry's own figures, and how we make it up as draperies in our Fort Lauderdale workroom, from the cloth your designer orders.
4 colourways of wool check, 56 in wide
Prince of Wales is a wool check from Holland & Sherry, in their Savile Row collection (100% wool, 56 in wide, made in Chile). It comes in 4 colourways, Sinclair, Nolan, Callum and Kyle. Their spec sheet gives its end use as "Upholstery, drapery, soft goods, accessories, and wall upholstery".
At 56 in it is cut up the roll like a conventional drapery cloth: a wide panel is made of joined widths, with each seam hidden inside a pleat or a ripplefold wave. The repeat is 6.69 in across, 7.48 in down, matched at every seam and across the windows of a room, so the yardage is worked out on the repeat rather than the finished size.
Wool brings weight, a soft hand and quiet, and it resists flame on its own; what it does not resist is the sun, which fades and weakens it, so it wants a lining and, on bright south and west glass, a shade in front of it. In a lived-in, air-conditioned house it is at home; in a house shut up for the summer, humidity is its risk (curtain fabric types). At 28.06 oz per linear yard (870 g per linear metre) it is a heavy cloth, so the track or rod is sized for the weight.
Their drapery note advises hanging the drapery before it is hemmed, so the cloth settles to the room, and lining every drapery, to block the light and protect the face.

What Prince of Wales does at the window, and what it does not
Best use
Prince of Wales is a heavy cloth, the kind that makes a drapery read as tailored: a study, a library, a dining room or a bedroom, pinch pleat or ripplefold on a track or rod sized for the weight, lined, often blackout-lined.
Light and privacy
Closed, Prince of Wales gives full privacy; how much light comes through is decided by the lining we sew behind it: light-filtering for living rooms, interlining for body and quiet, blackout for bedrooms (the lining guide).
Cloth and care
100% wool; 28.06 oz per linear yard (870 g per linear metre); Martindale 30,000 rubs. Care, by Holland & Sherry's sheet: professional dry clean only, cleaning code S. Holland & Sherry list it as PFAS free.
Limitations
Not for unshaded south or west glass on its own: the sun fades natural fibres, so a shade goes in front of it there. At 56 in a wide panel is made of joined widths, and the repeat is matched at every seam, which costs yardage. The weight needs a track or rod sized for it; a light decorative rod will bow. No NFPA 701 result in Holland & Sherry's data, so a condo common area or a commercial job that asks for it needs the cloth flame treated with a certificate, if Holland & Sherry can supply it that way, or another cloth.

How Prince of Wales becomes draperies in your home
Your designer specifies
Holland & Sherry sell to the trade, so the cloth is chosen and ordered by your designer, with the colour code and the sample in hand. Not working with a designer? Tell us; we can suggest a cloth we order ourselves.
We measure and give the yardage
We measure the windows, settle the style, the fullness and the lining, and work out the yardage on the width and the repeat, so the order to Holland & Sherry is right the first time.
We make and install
The cloth comes to our Fort Lauderdale workroom, where our five in-house seamstresses cut and sew the draperies, and our own installers hang them on the rod, track or motorized system the window calls for.
Where Prince of Wales works here
We have made Holland & Sherry wool up before: at the Ritz-Carlton Residences Miami Beach the designer's schedule called for two Holland & Sherry wool jacquards, made up as blackout drapery on Lutron Sivoia QS tracks, the reversible flannel hung with its lighter face outward as specified. Prince of Wales would be made the same way: lined, for an air-conditioned room, with a shade in front of it on bright glass.
For the same use, compare Prince of Wales with Savile Row Check (check, 59 in, 9 colourways), Savile Row Windowpane (wool windowpane, 59 in, 6 colourways) and Savile Row Windsor Tweed (Windsor tweed, 55 in, 23 colourways).

Prince of Wales: frequently asked
How many colours does Holland & Sherry Prince of Wales come in?
4 colourways on Holland & Sherry's site when we read it on October 7, 2026: Sinclair, Nolan, Callum and Kyle. Every one is listed on this page with its code; Holland & Sherry's photographs of each are on their own site, linked from the table.
Can I buy Prince of Wales from you?
No. Holland & Sherry sell to the trade, so your designer orders the cloth from them. We make it up and install it: we measure and work out the yardage, the cloth is sent to our Fort Lauderdale workroom, and our seamstresses cut and sew the draperies.
Will Prince of Wales need seams?
Yes on most windows: at 56 in it runs up the roll, so a panel wider than one width is made of joined widths, with the seams hidden inside the pleats and the repeat matched at each seam.
Is Prince of Wales fire rated for drapery?
Holland & Sherry's data gives no NFPA 701 result for it, only upholstery tests (BS 5852 Cigarette & Match; Cal 117-2013; NFPA 260). For a residence that is not an issue; where a building asks for NFPA 701 on the drapery, ask your designer whether Holland & Sherry can supply it flame treated with a certificate, or choose another cloth.
What does Prince of Wales cost made up as draperies?
The cloth is bought through your designer at Holland & Sherry's price, so our quote covers what we make and install: the fabrication, the lining, the track or rod and the installation, worked out from the measure. Ask for a workroom price with the button above and we come back with a figure, not a range.
