An outdoor texture at 55 in, in 6 colourways
Vell is one of the Holland & Sherry cloths we make up as draperies: an outdoor texture in their Higgins Giles & Co outdoor range (100% polyolefin, 55 in wide, made in Italy). The range runs to 6 colourways: Atlantic Silver, Blue Coral, Deep Ocean, Moody Lagoon, Sea Foam and Sea Salt. Their spec sheet gives its end use as "Upholstery, drapery, multi-use".
At 55 in wide, a drapery panel wider than one width is made of joined widths, with each seam hidden inside a pleat or a ripplefold wave. Holland & Sherry's sheet gives the fabric direction as railroaded.
It is an outdoor performance weave, so it is the cloth for the places an indoor drapery would not last: a loggia, a cabana, a covered terrace by the pool. At 31 oz per linear yard (970 g per linear metre) it is a heavy cloth, so the track or rod is sized for the weight.

What Vell does at the window, and what it does not
Best use
Vell is an outdoor performance cloth that Holland & Sherry list for drapery as well as upholstery, so it is the drapery for an outdoor room: a loggia, a cabana, a covered terrace, pinch pleat or ripplefold on a track rated for outdoors.
Light and privacy
An opaque cloth, so privacy is complete when it is closed. The lining sets the light: a light-filtering sateen keeps a room glowing, an interlining adds body and quiet, a blackout lining turns a bedroom dark (lining guide).
Cloth and care
100% polyolefin; 31 oz per linear yard (970 g per linear metre); Martindale 50,000 rubs; Wyzenbeek 45,000 double rubs. Care, by Holland & Sherry's sheet: do not dry clean; washed as their care instructions describe.
Limitations
At 55 in a wide panel is made of joined widths; the seams sit inside the pleats. The weight needs a track or rod sized for it; a light decorative rod will bow. No NFPA 701 result in Holland & Sherry's data, so a condo common area or a commercial job that asks for it needs the cloth flame treated with a certificate, if Holland & Sherry can supply it that way, or another cloth.

How Vell becomes draperies in your home
Your designer specifies
Holland & Sherry sell to the trade, so the cloth is chosen and ordered by your designer, with the colour code and the sample in hand. Not working with a designer? Tell us; we can suggest a cloth we order ourselves.
We measure and give the yardage
We measure the windows, settle the style, the fullness and the lining, and work out the yardage on the width and the repeat, so the order to Holland & Sherry is right the first time.
We make and install
The cloth comes to our Fort Lauderdale workroom, where our five in-house seamstresses cut and sew the draperies, and our own installers hang them on the rod, track or motorized system the window calls for.

Is Vell fire rated for drapery?
Holland & Sherry's data gives no NFPA 701 result for it, only upholstery tests (BS 5852 Cigarette & Match; Cal 117-2013). For a residence that is not an issue; where a building asks for NFPA 701 on the drapery, ask your designer whether Holland & Sherry can supply it flame treated with a certificate, or choose another cloth.
